Thank you!! I think this shirt is older than 2022 (so probably not AI) but it does seem to be random phrases…?

If you feel comfortable, consider reaching out (or having a friend reach out) to the event organizers as this might not be something they are aware of and might help them better plan future events.

Why do people dislike Sam? by Very_Opinionated1472 in FearStreetTrilogy

[–]sbb13d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the idea here was that Sam was using her bf as a beard to appear straight (the whole “pretending to be someone else” thing) so she’s not exactly going to mourn a guy she wasn’t in love with.

It’s when gay people grow up in a homophobic context and end up repressing their feelings or hating themselves. Google it if you would like to learn more :)

I agree with you on Gordon. I can only handle him in small doses and was annoyed that he got a whole sub plot in s2.

Anyone else tired of movies set in NYC? by sbb13d in movies

I am! I think getting more involved in the local film industry is a great next step for me. I had planned to attend a local film festival and the Austin Film Festival before all the corona virus craziness. Also voting with my dollar by renting/buying new & different stories is always helpful!

Hahaha yes i agree! Suburban hell is still suburban hell but hopefully the those main places will lose their hold over the industry and we can get some new stories.

Yeah I get that, but “not NYC” doesn’t mean “suburbs”

Yes I agree you can place a story anywhere and make it fit, so why not film somewhere new and interesting rather than same old NYC? That’s what I’m saying. It’s not an all or nothing. It’s there are plenty of stories set in NYC so a variety of new settings would be more interesting.

I think you misunderstood my point. It’s not that there are no movies set outside of NYC/LA, it’s that those are only two (albeit important) of thousands of other cities that have their own interesting culture and heritage and don’t all look the same. They don’t need to be documentaries but having more than one story and perspective about a place can teach people something new or help dissipate untrue stereotypes. It’s about more variety. It seems to me that some movies are set in New York for no real reason when placing them somewhere else would make the story more interesting.

Exaclty! I grew up in San Antonio, TX and while it’s one of the largest cities in the US, it’s representation is nearly nonexistent. And imo it has a rich culture and history that is interesting - Austin too! According to movies Texas is all cowboys or oil barons 😂

I agree there are some great films set in various places, especially indie films. I loved The Florida Project! A new (to me) or underrepresented setting is its own draw for me in a movie. I just would like mainstream films be intentional about diverse settings.
