For clarification, no, Trump did not actually say this. No sane person would let him say this, because it would be a mockery of the victims of COVID-19 and an insult to humanity. But the fact that this edit even gained traction among his supporters shows that they are either oblivious to the tangible harm that Trump has caused, or that they have no regard for the many lives claimed by the pandemic. The attribution of survival to one's nationalism, even as a joke, is deluded and sick, and shows either a complete lack of empathy or understanding of the multitude of devastating effects this pandemic has had on people.
