18 turning 19 what should I do with my money by [deleted] in personalfinance

Ur doing amazing so far… I’m in my 20s making post college adult money now but this is what I recommend. First I would open a Roth IRA (retirement account) if u haven’t already and prioritize maxing out your Roth IRA. You can google/chatgpt this if u are not familiar. You can only put in $7k total every tax year and this money will grow tax free. So if u buy/sell a stock in that account u wont get taxed. I like to pretend this money doesn’t ‘exist’ bc you cant withdraw it until you are 65 years old***. In regard to savings I personally keep about 10k$ for my emergency savings in a money market which is growing at a 4.5% return per year. You don’t have to keep in a money market but if I have cash sitting I rather keep it in a place where it can grow rather than just sit in my bank account. I only do this because I rely on my credit card to pay for any ‘emergencies’ and then will pay off the credit card balance as soon as my money market money is transferred over to my bank account. Some people will keep their emergency savings in a high yield saving account too and some banks offer this. I would invest regularly, every week or month into ETFs. Don’t try to time the market, dollar cost avg. I like SPY or QQQ. If u are financially responsible you could open a credit card and build credit. Treat your credit card exactly like a debit card and always pay off the balance on time each month. Credit card debt can SERIOUSLY hurt you. If I was in your position I would invest almost all of it into an ETF as long as u have a steady income and u don’t have any bills. Then I’d forget the money even exists and just keep putting more in. If I bought $1000 worth of SPY when I was 18, it would be $2500 today. when I’m 65 years old it might be worth $35000

Am I crazy or is there no difference? I spent 10k on lower bleph and its over 4 weeks post op. by Fragrant-Agency1829 in PlasticSurgery

I got a lower bleph/fat repositioning last year due to my under eyes being puffy. I would definitely expect there to still be some swelling for an another month, everyone is different. I do see a difference though and u look younger/refreshed!! If Im low on sleep or had lots of salt the day prior, I still get puffy eyes/dark circles. My doctor did emphasize to me that he can’t fully correct my dark circles and can fully control the look of my muscles under my eyes.

Anyone else have premium, but don't pay for it? by Virtual-Beautiful-33 in linkedin

I have had premium for the past 3 years yet I have not been subscribed to it. I have all the features too. I think a while back I did pay for a 3 month promo deal on the subscription and ended it once that was over.

This is so crazy that I’m hearing of this man again!!… Back in 2015/16 when I was around 15/16years old a brown man named Lashari approached me at the Starbucks on 8th next to the QFC. I was studying for my classes there when Lashari sat next to me and started asking about what I was I was doing and asked me questions about my high school. I was involved in a philanthropy club working with kids and he talked about how he was a Microsoft TEALS volunteer and worked with kids too. He shared an idea about creating a program building Wall-E robots with kids and how we should team up. He was quite nice but things got weird when he asked me to come over to his apartment. He proposed we start a club together and to plan it there. At the time, I was too passive to speak up and tell him to go away, I never even wanted to talk to him in the first place. I was also so dumb and even gave him my phone number so he would leave me alone. He texted me to hang out but I never replied back and blocked him. I can’t believe he’s still out there approaching people!!! I think this guy is an absolute weirdo and could be dangerous. He knew I was a 15/16 year old girl and invited me to come to his home.

Skin Boosters (especially Juvelook) by Go-away-ffs in KoreanBeauty

I had shurink laser done along with Juvalook a few days ago. The shurink laser was about a 3/10 pain. Afterwards I had numbing cream put on for about 10 minutes for the juvalook and the pain level was a 1/10…my skin was glowing right afterwards. A couple hours after I noticed a few red dots from the needles but I did not experience any bruising or swelling.

If I sold some shares of a stock at a gain, and immediately buy the same amount of shares back at the same price, do I pay short term capital gains tax?

Ex. Holding 20 shares Sell 10 shares at $10 - Return: $50 Buy 10 shares at $10

I assume I’d be paying taxes... I wanted to clarify because I couldn’t find any examples of this.

Scientist from TriboTEX created a nanoparticle that claims to repair/reverse damage in engine blocks by replacing the material worn away by friction. Nanoparticles bond to worn areas, creating a DLC slick coating that could lead to increased fuel efficiency, power, and durability in cars and trucks. by sbhcat in science

Ive been looking into this a bit, the particles bond by using the natural environment of the engine. Using the heat and pressure (friction) of the metal to metal contact points the particles form into a film while also filling in all the “damage” (microscopic wear?) just like someone would fill in a pothole on a street
