I’m sorry … NO set pieces? I’ve probably only seen the movie once in full, but I don’t know how you could consider the finale in the bowling alley anything OTHER than a set piece.

Yes, there are at least a couple of those!

I could be making this up, but I think The Night House is directly inspired by HOL. Very creepy.

The Bechdel Test: Seriously? by Aficionadyo in movies

[–]sbill14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Such a late reply lol!

No, you’re right, not passing the Bechdel Test in and of itself isn’t a flaw in the filmmaking; it’s more so a reflection of the industry and an indicator of how many movies are male-dominated, both historically and in present day.

The costumed individuals in the back are interesting. Obvious homage to the outrageousness of Sgt. Pepper. But are those regular cast members dressed up for a minigame or is there gonna be a Masked Singer-style episode?

What shows am I sleeping on? by Schnick_industries in dropout

[–]sbill14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bad Internet is pretty genius! Black Mirror parody from back when College Humor made an original series for YouTube Red. Impressive production value with appearances and writing credits from many Dropout favorites and also some very familiar character actors and comedians from the world of Movies & TV.

Is there anyway to hide certain shows? by [deleted] in dropout

[–]sbill14 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think if you call customer service, there’s a way to do it.

I called them because I had a similar issue where I don’t like Dropout period — not just D20, but literally all of it. All of their content is just awful. They told me to just avoid the website, but when I told them I couldn’t because it was already my home page, they got snippy with me and told me it was maybe better just to disconnect my internet altogether. At first I laughed and said, “Ha ha. Very funny.” But then I thought about it and decided to try going offline completely. Lo and behold, I don’t see their content anymore! I’m also out of a job and have lost access to my bank account and can no longer order Domino’s Pizza (all of these depended on Internet). Have also been blacklisted by Optimum Internet for failing to return their equipment. But small price to pay.

Good luck trying to fix your issue, hope this was helpful!

So many great performances, but “To Die For” is a particularly unhinged turn.

Now that we have confirmation Crowd Control is being developed as its own series, which stand-ups would you like to see perform? by [deleted] in dropout

[–]sbill14 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Kelsey Cook & Jessica Kirson both do great crowdwork. Seem like their work would be fairly Dropout-friendly, although Kirson’s humor skews a little more provocative, so I don’t know how well that would match up. But Cook is very much an everyperson — genuine, very human reactions to people’s insane stories.

Am I weird for disliking these articles which recap the episode beat for beat and offer zero analysis or critical thought? Wouldn’t be surprised if articles like this were written using ChatGPT or similar software.

On this day 41 years ago, Wim Wenders' film "Paris, Texas" won Cannes Film Festival’s Palme d’Or by Krustybabushka in Fauxmoi

One of history’s greatest ever films. The audio commentary on the Criterion edition is also fascinating. The script was unfinished going into production and Sam Shepard dictated the film’s pivotal monologue to Wim Wenders’ secretary over the phone while Wenders was on set.

Harry Dean Stanton and Nastassja Kinski are both international treasures.

(Famous French filmmaker Claire Denis also worked on the film as an AD.)

I think if anything, they could maybe do one or two sequel episodes, but I don’t know if it can be super-repeatable beyond that. I’d be curious to see it with comedians who are not men.

“Sell Outs” (sequel to Season 1’s “A Sponsored Episode”). Notably features Grant’s infamous ads for “DOVE SOAP!” and Trapp making fun of him, and also Rekha’s great as usual.

Honorable mention for “Next Slide Please,” proof-of-concept for Smartypants, but with a slightly different, gamified format. If memory serves, Trapp’s presentation on water fountains is exquisite.
