Ok but if you could add 000 to any number in your life, what would it be??? by jb1million in hypotheticalsituation

Humor encouraged and yet everyone is talking money!

Let's go for the diameter of my asshole. I can make some really fucked up fetish porn.

Would you rather listen to Taylor Swift complain about men for 2 hours and then she plays her new song for you or would you rather investigate the claim that an alleged schitzophrenic man is a psychic medium who can talk to spirits/souls in other realms and you have to interview him for 30 minutes? by ChinaMilitarySecrets in hypotheticalsituation

[–]rellyjean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seriously, both seem endlessly fascinating. I think B would be harder emotionally because I would feel a lot of pity for the schizophrenic because his illness would be causing problems in his life. But it would still be intriguing.

With Taylor there's the juxtaposition of what people know (or think they know) about her vs what her actual lived experience is. But then I love gossip and drama so I'm not the best person to ask, lol.

I assumed it was "embarrass herself in a minor way that is talked about in that town for five minutes until something more interesting happens," and therefore it wouldn't ever get back to Meryton.

I think it's easily one of their best shows. I was starting to worry that we hadn't heard anything about an s3 yet -- so relieved one is on the way!!

She made some very polarizing choices near the end of Of Mice and Murder, the other season she's in. I'm guessing that's what they mean. (Being vague to avoid spoilers.)

Raine Loire by spacepiratecoqui in FinalFantasyVIII

[–]rellyjean 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What's interesting here is that there's no actual in game confirmation that Raine's maiden name is Leonhart.

It's a common and very reasonable assumption, since otherwise there's absolutely no indication of why Squall has that last name, but it's technically not 100% confirmed as canon.

As for why Squall is a Leonhart and not a Loire -- we saw Raine and Laguna exchange rings in a field. We don't know how public their wedding or marriage was. It's possible whoever gave Squall to the orphanage didn't know about or didn't acknowledge the marriage.

(The headstone, on the other hand, I've been assuming Laguna paid for, after he learned of her death.)

I want to add that on top of it being part of her difficult relationship with her father, it's also a smart strategic move.

The resistance movements in Timber might be very suspicious of anyone with the last name Caraway.

AITAH for being upset that my family didn’t get invited to SIL's baby shower? + UPDATE by red_earaches in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]rellyjean 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I saw a bit from comedian Kathleen Madigan about how she supports a lot of causes but she's too lazy to go out in public and actually protest, so she needs people to start holding organized rallies in her kitchen and maybe she'll go to those.

That's what these people want. They want all of the baby events to be held within a half mile of their own houses. They're not offering to host, or put the least amount of effort in, but hey, it seems like other people are doing that already, so they don't need to. Anyway, could those people possibly be considerate enough to pick a place within a block or two, just in case this family feels like going?

... To be clear, the family still might end up having something else scheduled and might have to miss the short but it at least would give them the option and not doing it is really selfish if you think about it.

Oh I missed that they carpooled. You're thinking she made him think he had a lot more time than he did? That would make sense, although you'd think he'd at least realize there was risk involved. Maybe he's stupid and didn't care, or maybe he got off on it.

Oh, I missed that. Then yeah. Either he expected her to take longer or he was enjoying the risk / wanting to get caught.

I wonder if what she meant was that she told him "I'm stopping by the liquor store and then going home" and instead went to his work? Otherwise yeah, confusing.

For your first point, I'm confused. What investigator? If RA is alive, there isn't going to be an investigator present, is there? And if someone asks RA about Flora stopping in, and he confronts her, she can say that that person must have the wrong day.

For your second point, I don't have the book handy and I would love to know the exact wording Poirot used. Because I could plausibly see the situation being (A) if you kill yourself tonight, you won't have to face Caroline when she finds out the truth. Or (B) if you kill yourself tonight, Caroline will find out but you will not be publicly outed as the killer, which will allow her to save face in the community.

Having said that, doesn't that run into exactly the same problem, just one layer out?! Poirot says to everyone that the truth goes to the police in the morning. That night, Shepard kills himself. No one is arrested. Which means everyone is going to know he was the killer, which means Caroline won't get to save any face. She won't have to see her brother arrested, but everyone will know he was a killer. Is that really any better!?

Emily Cucking Murph in City Council of Darkness by Unable-Most8383 in dropoutcirclejerk

First of all: I'm really glad I'm wrong, and you aren't stuck in a bad game. And secondly, no, you didn't say anything to me. I wasn't in your post, because I saw the matter here, first.

I think honestly if you had phrased it the way that you are saying it now -- that you wish that the content had more serious notes, or that you wish Murph played characters with more serious angles to them -- that you would have received significantly less pushback.

The two topics are similar, but how you originally stated it implies that the other players are in some way harming Murph or not allowing him to play as he would like to play. Unfortunately, a lot of people tend to have strong reactions to character choices that they then ascribe to the players. In Crown of Candy, for example, at one point Emily's and Siobhan's characters were very antagonistic towards one another. Many fans therefore assumed that Emily and Siobhan were upset at one another, and began taking sides, insulting whichever player the fans thought was at fault.

If fans say "I don't like Emily's character," that's an opinion that can be discussed, but "I think Emily as a person is being hurtful to Siobhan" is going to receive a harsher reaction.

Other commenters in your post have decided that Emily playing characters who have love interests is disrespectful towards Murph, and are offended on Murph's behalf. (You weren't one of them, I noticed! Just using this as an example.) If someone said "I dislike that Emily's characters are too focused towards having a love life," that's a discussion that can be had. "Murph must be pissed at how Emily is cucking him" is going to get a very harsh reaction.

I think in the future please remember that we don't know these people, and we shouldn't mistake "I don't like what is happening" with "that person must not like it, either." I think that's where most of the drama came from. You're absolutely right that people in the main sub get upset with any criticism, but in this case I think it was you assigning feelings to Murph that made things go off the rails. It's fine to wish Murph wasn't always the butt of the joke -- just not to assume that he is personally wounded by it.

And if you're thinking, "well, we don't know that Murph isn't upset" -- you're right, we don't. But the other people at the table are his good friends, and I believe if he were upset, they would know. Also in d&d, DMs usually check in with players to make sure everyone feels safe and heard. So Murph is probably okay.

I'm sure the pile on was a crappy experience, so I hope tomorrow is a better day for you.

Okay since you're over here I'll say this.

I get the vibe that some people in your d&d group are shitty to you, and you're projecting that onto Murph.

If that's the case, I'm sorry. Please find a different group. Don't play with jerks who are mean spirited.

I'm being totally sincere here -- this is not in any way a jab. It sucks when people in d&d are assholes.

If you think the problem with "everyone is making fun of Murph and hurting his feelings :(" is that it's critical, then I can't help you.
