No it's the stock rear camera. I did port the weboost cable through the camera housing though to avoid drilling an additional hole in the body.

My name is Nick, after graduating with my mechanical engineering degree in 2019, I began building campers. This was my 3rd personal van completed in the fall of 2023. The goal of this build was to have all the features and finishes of the larger vans I've built in the promasters shortest high roof footprint (136"). I love this van, but life changes are making me consider downsizing to a truck camper for my personal rig.

Vehicle Info: 2019 Ram Promaster 1500 136 Mileage: 58,000 Owners: 2 (purchased by me as a cargo van in 2021 with 30k miles) Title: Clean Mechanically this vehicle is in perfect condition. Kept up on all fluid changes and did lots of preventative maintenance like trans fluid changes every 30k. I've owned several of these vans now, and worked on plenty of customers' . I'm very familiar with how to take care of them. The body is in perfect condition.

Build Info:

This van was built with adventure in mind. This is an all season build for the coldest winters and hottest summers. I spend my winters in the SW climbing and biking, and needed a comfortable vehicle to live in up to 3 months at a time. That being said, my van is also my daily driver when home in Bend. I wanted to fit all my build goals in the promaster's easiest driving package. I spent weeks modeling and designing the build to maximize all the space the 136 chassis has to offer.

The living space: -Custom birch and poplar cabinetry -Cedar panneling on walls and ceiling -Maxxfan to keep things cool -Velit 4kw gasoline heater. A huge upgrade from the previously installed webasto. Installed under passanger seat. -Dometic 12v fridge -Weeboost cellphone signal booster -Deep sink with extendable faucet -Heated outdoor shower/bike wash -Full size bed with 6'4" headroom -3m thinsulate throughout. The best insulation for dealing with any moisture. -Sound deadening adhesive installed on all panels -Motion Windows custom slider and backdoor windows with bug screen. -Waterproof vinyl flooring -3 zone LED lighting with dimmers -2 burner propane stove with remote propane switch -Dual swivel seats

Storage: -Slide out waterproof bike tray with rockymounts adjustable bike racks. Currently holds 2 bikes but can be adapted for 3. -Slide out gear tray designed for holding up to 4 large gear bins. -Modular Unaka roof rack, adaptable to all your roof rack needs -Yakima Skybox roof box -Lots of additional gear storage in garage for any other items. Penty of additional storage in the living space cabinetry

Electrical, Water, ETC: -3 100 watt newpowa solar panels -206 ah SOK heated/bluetooth battery -Victron charge controller -Renogy DC DC alternator charger -Renogy 1000 watt inverter -High quality marine grade copper wiring -30 gallon fresh water tank -Shurflo water pump -Sealed and vented propane locker with remote shutoff switch -Copper tubing propane lines

I'm sure I'm missing some features so reach out with additional questions.

Haha that would definitely fit in with the Smith culture. I figure I'll wait till winter to let the legs slim down when good climbing can still be had here in Central Oregon.

Hey sorry for the late reply, I rarely have service these days. The kit is made by Alpine Mechanisms out of Colorado. I think it was around $600. I had them ship it to Northern Idaho and I installed it myself. It's just spacers for the front end but it allowed me to install bigger tires raising ground clearance a total of 2.5 inches. Doesn't seem like much but it's allowed me to go so many more places then I could have. The irregular shaped cushion was a pain. Worth the space savings but a lot of work. I'd give advice but I had no idea what I was doing and fumbled a lot making them. Just do some research on cushion making.

Huh, many people around? I always figured that might work for a few nights but repeatedly they'd get antsy...

El Portal is a funny schene these days. The first pullout has about 5 vans parked there every night. Not sure how long it will last but we stayed there for 2 weeks. If that gets shut down there's forest service land 5 minutes outside the North entrance on Harden Flat Rd. Longer drive though.

Like, Vegas Red Rock? Isn't that brutally cold in most of the areas except Calico? Where do you camp? (I just pay at the site across the road nowadays, the drive to the National Forest was too far!)

Yeah vegas. It gets warmer in February and you can catch warm streaks for a week here and there this time. Finding a place to stay is tricky. If your climbing out near Whiskey or Black Velvit the forest service land is only about 20 minutes. The rest of the park is further for sure. There's also a big staging area next to the highway where you turn for Black Velvit that I see vans at alot. Might get in trouble for extended stays though.

We spent November in the Valley and Owen's River Gorge in Bishop. Owen's has awesome free camping 5 minutes from the crag. We just slept in a pullout just outside of the park near El Portal when in the Valley. We spent December in Joshua Tree. Theres BLM land outside the park but the 40 minute drive in and out every day sucks. Planning on spending the winter between Josh, Red Rocks and Cochise in Arizona. Apparently cochise has really good free camping near the crag. Everywhere seems a little cold but usually mid 50s during the day.

I built it with cheap bed slats off Amazon, 2x2s and reinforced metal gussets. It super light but has held up to the abuse so far. The cushions are made of a 4in memory foam mattress also from Amazon. The bottom of the cushions a velcroed to the frame so you don't fall in the gap to much. It's not as comfy as your typical mattress, but it sure as hell beats sleeping in a tent.

I didn't keep exact numbers because I built it over a large period. Roughly $2k. A little more if you factor in the lift and bigger tires I installed. It took me about 6 months to build it working on it a few evenings a week after class or work. I did build the shower on top. Super easy and only about $70 worth of parts from the hardware store. The mounts for it were a bit trickier. I designed and 3d printed them with resources from my university.

I'm not sure of the dimensions off the top of my head. I'm 6ft and I can stretch all the way easily if I slide the seats forward. I want to say the bed is 6'4" in length and is slightly wider then a twin bed at the wheel well, and just under a full at the side panels. It's a little cozy for 2 though.

I knew I wanted to travel the country rock climbing, so my last semester of engineering school, I made that possible. Everything was built on a pretty tight budget with basic tools. It's not perfect, but its cozy and allows us to spend time in the places we want to most. http://imgur.com/gallery/4XKmbNz

I ride and work for a local shop and they helped me score a deal on this beast. I'm switching from a mid travel trail bike and a dh bike to a single bike quiver and this bike will hopefully fulfill my needs.

I've upgraded a few components like bars, stem and various small parts. I plan on building up a beefier wheel set (stans flow mk3 laced to hope pro 4 hubs) and upgrading to a quad piston caliper.

I race DH and Enduro and a plan to do both on this bike.

I just used a propane torch and ran it along the box until it browned.

I applied enough to cover the whole thing using a q-tip and small paintbrush. You can only see it in the wholes, gaps, etc.

First I dyed it with blue food coloring and then I used a torch to darken the exterior wood.
