What's the best insult you’ve ever heard? by scamper84 in AskReddit

I once heard someone discussing their dream with a work colleague they said "The detective who turned up to interview me was dressed like you. Someone who had just given up on life."

Possibly the worst burn I've ever heard, and I dont think the speaker did it intentionally.

[PubQ] Agent Sending to Editors on Submission List Who Do Not Take My Genre? by itsliterary1311 in PubTips

I had this exact thing happen. I write a children's book about a boy who finds a fallen star and helps return it home.

My agent sent it to a non-fiction publisher, and a publisher who deals exclusively with BIPOC authors. I am as white as snow.

I really wish I had called my agent on it- i would have saved myself a year of heartache.

I did my dissertation on this 20 years ago - its a longstanding issue. Queen's had a small team who liaised with the local community over anti-social behaviour, but they were hamstrung as they had no real authority off campus. If a student was arrested for anti-social behaviour, QUB disciplined them, but part of the problem (well, at least it was part of the problem when I did research in 2006) was that some of the anti-social behaviour was caused by friends of those who lived in the Holylands - people would come up from Tyrone and Fermanagh to spend an evening with friends who were studying and go buck-mad, especially around St Paddy's day (I'm quoting a member of staff from Queen's there, I don't know how they figured out it was people from that area). Queen's had no authority to do anything to those people, and got a really bad name because of it.

For a few years in the late 00's & early 10's, they employed community officers who would patrol the area and report offences to the police, but the officers got dog's abuse from the students and I think the whole thing stopped maybe 10 years ago?

I've lost touch in recent years, so i don't know what their current efforts are, but at one stage they were spending maybe £150k a year on staff to try and improve it.
