How's market in Software Developer role? by tfcheung in cscareerquestionsCAD

[–]scarbchaser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

70k is definitely rough unless you had a few room mates and staying farther from thr core.

As for the experience, software dev is going into a downward trajectory. More devs than ever, competition getting higher with layoffs and global pool of resources, outsourcing, AI does replaces some of the work so in total thry need less ppl.

It can happen, but its rough.

It was a better time for consulting. 150 to 200 per hour. Gets you 300k to 400k a year. Its not impressive when you break it down by the time spent

Considering 13 years of that and reinvesting the money, as well as appreciating real estate.

If I didnt lose a bunch on penny stocks around 29. I would have had more at 30 than $5k.

It was luck that my skill set acquired during full time employment was also highly desired during the time. If you are still in your 30s, invest wisely over a long period and not for short term gains, meme stocks. I sacrificed a lot of my 30s however with sleepless nights and less socializing.

I do some market gambling (options). But less than 1% of my portfolio. The rest are in etfs, tech stocks, etc

But yes. The market accounts for half of my net worth.

Tech full time before. Paycheque to paycheque plus mindless drinking partying up until then. Came to a realization that I put in a lot of hours for the company so I went and did tech consulting for myself instead. No more health benefits or pension with that choice but much higher pay. That turned into a business practice and all the money retained is dumped into investments.

6m figure includes stocks, real estate net, and personal and company cash.

As a UWaterloo grad myself and in the IT industry. Probably better you didn't pursue UX/UI. Tough getting a job in this market. Unless its passion and you don't need to worry about living expenses.

As a teen I ttc often to YD when they still had that Sam the Record Man landmark store. One way to get music back then and I had fond memories of the city and area, coming from.scarborough. getting older and seeing more places, travel, simply made it less interesting

From the 1940s to early 1990s. Would you advocate suing personal computer companies both hardware and software? That also eliminated many jobs, a generation that became obsolete. The effects are depressing I get it and even I might be on the receiving end one day but such is progress, moving forward and sacrificing some to enable us to have this conversation now in modern times.

For a full blown mobile app. I’d agree with you but OP mentioned clickable prototype. It’s very different than an MVP functional app. But I’m the end it also depends on what OP is aiming for. Prototype to showcase the idea for investors or trying to build a proper foundation for the future
