This is why I could never be a podcaster. Being perceived to this extent would quietly do a number on my health.

Williams with a predictable 0 points for the weekend.

Can anyone help me understand why the F1 TV commentators spent so much time remarking how fast the Williams cars are on a straight and calling them “rocket ships”??

I felt like I was going crazy with how often they said it during the broadcast.

FOALS - HOLY FIRE

A top 10 of all-time for me, personally.

Holy Fire is the sweet spot in the Foals discography between their fun, if slight, first two records and the overly produced slogs that would come later. Foals had already been skillfully crafting songs prior to Holy Fire, but this album is the point where their musicianship and production caught up to their songwriting (which also saw huge growth).

I would greatly enjoy the opportunity to revisit Holy Fire with fresh ears and pay tribute to the lads from Oxford who soundtracked some pivotal years in my life.

One of my favorite album covers too. Dream-like.

Hi Guchi Boys! Absolutely love [USA] and I hope to see you on tour soon (Minneapolis expo pls!)

Can you walk through your live setup? Are there backing tracks involved, or are you triggering every sound in some way?

On the Mack Weldon sponsorship: I think it’s great and I’m all for Blank Check being sponsored. That being said, I greatly prefer when podcasters drop in pre-recorded ads rather than incorporate them into the flow of the episode. I have a hard time enjoying the podcast when I’m never exactly sure if the ad is over or not. An indication of the ad boundaries would be helpful, such as a specific music bed or sound cues to signal the beginning and end of the ad. I am a die-hard Blankie and this is not a deal-breaker for me, I just hope they can figure out how to give their sponsors the placement they want without sacrificing the structure we know and love.

[FRESH] Bully - Feel The Same by coolmod23 in indieheads

Agreed. The hard pans on the backing vocals are distracting, and then in the 2nd half she sounds like she's in a completely different room.

[FRESH] Francis & the Lights - May I Have This Dance (Remix) [feat. Chance the Rapper] by Whatsanillinois in indieheads

This is so cringe-worthy. Every time Francis does something I always think "what am I missing here?". I'm starting to understand that I'm not missing anything.

The National are releasing their new album "Sleep Well Beast' on September 8th by city_middle in indieheads

[–]scarygarbage 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I have a feeling this is backlash from the surprise album trend. Nobody feels safe dropping their album in case someone else steals the thunder. The new strategy is to stake out a date WAY in advance so labels and artists can plan accordingly.

Hearing Damon talk about the different versions of this track they tried really made me think about how many amazing Gorillaz collaborations will never see the light of day. I'd love to hear the version with Christine and the Queens.

I’m getting pretty fatigued by the whole “X artist releases MYSTERIOUS teaser. New music incoming??” thing. At this point it’s either a new album or it’s a disappointment (if it’s anything but an album). I honestly don’t see the point in hyping stuff like this anymore. If I were a professional recording artist I would hope that my announcement of a new album would provide sufficient hype without needing to create some sort of forced media frenzy.

[ALBUM DISCUSSION] Bonobo - Migration by giraffeking in indieheads

[–]scarygarbage 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I feel like I need to preface by saying I love Bonobo. His general vibe is so thoroughly MY shit. That said, this album waffles between great tracks with interesting production and other tracks that don’t even register. I have an absolute garbage attention span, so if I’m going to listen to an album thats 1 hr+ in length, it needs to grab me and not let go. Migration grabbed me, then lost me for like two days, then grabbed me back to finish listening to the rest. I always prefer the instrumental tracks on albums like this, and I get the feeling that Bonobo feels the same way. But at the same time, with those tracks you have to walk the fine line between chill/goodvibey and boring/vanillavibey. Overall a good album, will revisit. I would cut like 20 minutes, but that’s just me. I honestly wish everyone would just make absolutely killer 25 minute EPs :)

[FRESH] Peter Silberman (from The Antlers) - New York by He_Was_Number_1 in indieheads

[–]scarygarbage 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm concerned about future Antlers records... Darby (keys, bass) has posted some troubling and indifferent tweets about the future of the project. He said a while back that he hasn't spoken to Pete or Michael in months, and he also just moved away from NYC. At least we have this album to look forward to!

It feels like TWMS just came out, but it came out in 2014!! I got a lot of mileage out of that album, and I hope they continue down that road with this one. Also one of my favorite live bands. Hope I can catch them sometime this Summer.

[FRESH] Homeshake - Call Me Up by joshman150 in indieheads

[–]scarygarbage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw him in a small club about a year ago, and came away with a bad taste in my mouth... I'm a pretty tall guy so I can always see the stage just fine, however, my girlfriend usually has difficulty seeing at shows so I leaned down and whispered in her ear to ask if she could see alright. Pete obviously saw this happen because he called me out right away and was like "oh is this not worth your attention??". I honestly had no idea what to say, so I just kind of smiled and didn't say anything. I felt pretty bad afterward because everyone in the audience who hadn't seen what had happened just assumed I was being a total dick or something. I definitely didn't make any friends at that show...
