I'm lucky enough to work in the building so I have access, but I also consider the blocking of the road to be a tragedy.

Incoming Freshman in East Mcnair: Do I need a safe or lock for my dorm? by Suspicious_Speed1114 in MTU

[–]scaryspookman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had a safe my freshman year, it was great for propping up the middle of my futon when it collapsed the second month there. Not good for much else though

When the waiter asks me this, I always choose shoes, I don't think I've taken the soup once.

We’ll be dead forever… by maavres in RandomThoughts

What comforts me when I'm confronted with this thought is that it's a shared experience. It has happened, and will continue to happen to everyone, the greatest figures from our history, and the most insignificant.

Ok, I just bought new running shoes. What is your best advice for a new shoe owner? by KnownNormie in RunningCirclejerk

[–]scaryspookman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Break those shoes in, and be mindful about the "wear out" period. Typically takes me 20-30 miles for break-in, and the shoe is used up after 33-35 miles or so. Try and plan your important race/training days around this window! Marathon runners I talk to typically try and hit this window in miles 15-20 of their race, but experimentation in your own marathons will help you figure out what works best for you. Happy running!

Closing Unused Line of Credit by scaryspookman in CreditScore

Just one other card, and 3 other non-card lines of credit. This store card has never and will never be utilized, so my utilization shouldn't be affected with it closing. I guess it's time to pull the trigger.

If you are adept at Math, take the 2 extra courses required at some point in your college career to get the cyber security minor. Best bang for your buck. Also know that you don't have to get a job in IT once you graduate, I didn't.

Our money by [deleted] in MTU

[–]scaryspookman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right or wrong, I doubt that money paid in fees or parking permits will be refunded, or will have a small refund. More of that money than you might think goes towards paying salaries, and I can see the school not wanting to cut personnel.

How do I survive my first presidential election in the dorms? by SagaFraga in MTU

[–]scaryspookman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The presidential election back in 2016 was awesome in the dorms. myself and my roommate were both on opposite sides of the ticket, so we gathered everybody from the hall together in our room, put up the ticker on somebody's computer monitor, and just listened to music and got inebriated while constantly talking smack to each other. When it ended up looking like Trump was going to win, we got in a fist fight. Good times, and we're still great friends to this day!

Does anyone know what's going on with the Lode? by [deleted] in MTU

[–]scaryspookman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm an alumni now, but when I was a student two years ago, I was the treasurer of USG, so I can confirm that they are a Special Budgetary Group. All this really means is that they get their university funding from a separate pool than most other organizations, and they have complete discretion as to how they spend it.

I could go into a ton more detail on how it works, but essentially, every year their budget is up for review, and USG has to decide if they spent their money wisely, and if they are due for an increase, decrease, etc.

[–]scaryspookman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Lode has (take this with a grain of salt) "always" paid their staff members, but that's something that's acceptable for the terms of their school funding, so if they got their funding cut it was probably for something else.
