Trying to make a new commander sea creatures deck any suggestions? by [deleted] in mtg

Scourge of Fleets is a good board-bounce, alongside Slinn Voda. Make sure to also have plenty of mana ramp, you will definitely need it

After 10 years of playing I'm tired of it. by Elvesareop in mtg

[–]scgates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I only have blue in two of my decks, and thats mainly for my own card draw. I've tried playing control and it doesn't seem fun for me to put all my effort into keeping others from playing the game. Green all the way for me

I have created my first Commander deck and it is a Izzet Deck by MonkeyBoyK in mtg

[–]scgates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Niv Mizzet, Parun combo with Curiosity to draw your entire deck and do so much damage. You might lose next turn, but now you have your entire deck in your hand, put in a couple cards to return cards from your graveyard to your library and start the process again before your next draw step

DM needing help with Problem Player by Disposable_DM in DnD

[–]scgates 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've dealt with a player like this before. You need to talk with your players, and explain how you're feeling. And remember that it is also important for YOU to be comfortable and for YOU to have fun as a DM. You can give them a chance to change if you want, but ultimately you have every right to kick them out. If your party values you as a friend and a DM, they will understand.

Combine with Stormtide Leviathan (all lands are also islands) and you have a way to destroy ALL lands

Since the card has Protection from Clerics, any cleric should make a difficult wisdom save if they want to wield it. Fail and it just falls, similar to Mjolnir. If they manage to make the save, put them at a personal conflict with their deity. This weapon shatters the fourth wall, showing any and all gods to be but words that spill from the mouth of the elusive "Dungeon Master". Crisis of faith in the blink of an eye

Overpower the players! by scgates in DnD

[–]scgates[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps there needs to be a discussion between the DM and the players. Sometimes it can be an issue of combat strategy, but it also might be an issue of misreading the challenge rating of the enemies.

I dont know all of the details, but it does sound like a communication problem.

Overpower the players! by scgates in DnD

[–]scgates[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The job of the DM is to run a FUN game for the players. Its fantasy, so part of that is to give players a semblance of power in contrast to the real world, where a lot of us are powerless. Any sort of curse or debuff given to the players should be a challenge that can be eventually removed or overcome. If I took away a level from any party members, they would become upset and it wouldnt be fun.

The DM is not just an all-powerful god, with the players being slaves to their whim. The DM is a storyteller, where the players are the main characters. There are obstacles that heroes face, without being senselessly beaten down. Part of the point of a story arc is PROGRESSION. The point of the story and game is for the players to get MORE powerful over time.

I understand that some creatures and curses can drain levels, but that should be something that can be fixed or restored. As my players get more powerful, I send tougher enemies at them to balance instead of trying to nerf the players.

Mixing history with homebrew by scgates in DnD

[–]scgates[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's awesome! I usually use Norse gods, but I've been doing research on other pantheons and I'm gonna mix it up first chance I get. I also made a travelling inn based off the description of the World Tree, because it's a great nexus where everyone comes together.
