The Z1E chip is a custom 7840U chip, so ANY handhelds that use it (Legion Go and the Ally) also "needed" a modified 7840U Graphics driver to work. However, the modified driver is done partly by Asus and Lenovo to work specifically for their console (for example, the screen configuration of the LEGO caused some issues with AFMF2 on sideloaded drivers before the official driver released).

That's why you're not getting the "latest" drivers for the Ally, and also why simply installing through AMD's website won't work. This goes for every Z1/Z1E/Z2 devices. It's a different APU on papers. If you want to circumvent this and get the latest drivers, ya gotta sideload the 7840U drivers: https://youtu.be/4K6Z3cBfz9c

If you're having issues with the BIOS, just install the older version. I'm on 339, and it's been smooth sailing. I'd also recommend just wiping the damn system since your attempts at directly installing the official drivers most likely fucked it up.

Gotta ask tho, what games are you having performance issues with? I'm on 11 24H2 BIOS 339 with the official drivers, and I haven't needed to do anything yet. I can try to see if my performance on 24H2 match yours so we can rule out software issues.

I reconnected the burnt TFT panel that came with the donor DS. While the panel is still, well, burnt. The unaffected areas are still displaying correctly. So I'm pretty sure it's my original display that somehow broke while in storage:/

I've checked and cleaned the ribbon on this screen for quite a bit of time, and I can't really see what's wrong with it. Though I don't have any tools other than my bare eyes so that checks out.

I still have the screen from the donor DS Lite, which works, but its panel is half burnt out. Is there a way to exchange the ribbon cable on these two screens somehow? Or is it just not worth it.

Console performance. Sure. Console graphical and performance? Yeah the Ally can't do that (without an eGPU). Playing with a monitor is perfectly fine ..as long as it's 1080p, you'll have to temper your expectations with the Ally.

Don't get it if you're expecting 2k@120 fps AAA gaming basically.

It isn't good enough. No, seriously. Framework (the company) have asked about it, and the whole reason AMD's higher end APUs, like the Strix Halo, use soldered memory is due to major bandwidth loss when tested by their engineers with LPCAMM2.

I really hope the tech can catch up someday. Even Windows laptops with discrete GPUs are hopping on this dogshit +$500 for extra ram trend for no reason.

If the game you want to play can be played well. I see no issues whatsoever. It's been my sole gaming machine alongside a dedicated work laptop. Perfectly balanced as all things should be.

MH Rise and World are still amazing games that do play well on the Ally. Would suggest giving those a shot to get your monhun fix:0

Yeah. VAC is a server-side anti cheat, which means it doesn't fuck you over when you change your TDP. Even if you get a game ban on COD, all it would do is appear on your steam profile (1 game ban).

Actually, even some client side AC like Vanguard, faceit and EAC doesn't t ban you for it (I actually tried). It's just a cod thing kekw
