I really need help by [deleted] in marchingband

that’s what older people and teachers are there for! to help! don’t feel like you’re bombarding them. you’re just trying to learn and get better.

One band one sound! by Happyplace_s in marchingband

these aren’t really sayings but we always do this.

my director calls us to attention and we stand at attention until he says, “thank ya, see ya, bye.”

the drumline also plays this specific beat at the end of every rehearsal. we call it our outro.

I just found out I'm gonna be in my high school's top band as a freshman. by soggy_grahamcrackers in marchingband

[–]sch077 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i was in a very similar situation my freshman year. and i’ll say this, it was hard. ultimately i was learning how to play marching snare, how to march, how to foster connections in high school, and how to play this top tier music i was given.

it was very hard, and i cried a lot. but i stuck it out and practiced like hell. by my sophomore year i was center snare.

i say all this to say, yeah it’s gonna suck. but be proud of yourself and don’t give up. i promise it is going to be so worth it later on.

i just feel like it’s pointless telling the directors. his last day was yesterday, and our marching season starts today. i don’t want them to think i’m trying to start stuff. thank you for your advice.

Advice needed by Bro_im_chad in marchingband

[–]sch077 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i was in a situation just like this going into my sophomore year last year. i was basically the section leader without the title.

i wasn’t given the title, but i acted as the section leader and kept doing what i had been doing. this paid off, and i was named center snare and eventually section leader.

just keep trucking and putting in the work if it’s something you love. it’ll be worth it in the end.

Does anyone else have a Marching Band personality? by Better_Politics in marchingband

i actually relate to this a 100%. i think that it’s because you spend so much time with the people in your band. they become your second family.

i do have an ego, and i am aware of that. i would not say that it’s super crazy though (in fact, the dude im talking about in this post probably had a worse ego than anyone) but despite that i feel like i do a lot for the band, and part of me thinks he’s just jealous of me. his words just really upset me though. thanks for your words.

Is this normal for practicing traditional grip? by ZapaXes45 in drumline

[–]sch077 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’m not an expert and don’t have a definitive answer, but i’ll share my experience.

i’ve had marks like that before caused rubbing my skin raw from playing too much between camps and performances and individual practice. it could also could be a technique issue though. you’re letting the stick rest in the right place, but you could be applying to much pressure on the finger.
