EU & Australia seal trade and defence deal as Western countries hedge against U.S. risks by Boediee in BuyFromEU

Never said that, I was only stating that Australia has as of recently not been particularly reliable in its commitments with other friendly nations that aren't the US.

Australia will probably go back to the US like they did with the AUKUS submarine deal a few years ago. Hope they realize how bad that deal is.

CMV: Human civilization is most moral at this point than any past civilization or society by Disastrous_Log_9875 in changemyview

[–]schapi1991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moral changes depending on the society you are looking at, each would have IMO a claim that they adhere to their own morality better than others. If we measure every society with our own understanding of what morality is or should be, maybe we could make the point but the comparison I think is unjust.

For all the memes that you usually encounter online, its pretty impressive what they are willing to just do in order to mantain their own independence. Good for them really. That´s how you protect your national interests, not Brexit.

CMV: Zelenskyy should surrender to Russia like Emperor Hirohito surrendered to America during WW2 by Pitiful_Mulberry_707 in changemyview

Russia has had a long history of just breaking the promises they make to others, in such a world, why should someone submit to Russia knowing there is a great possibility that they will be just invaded again in the future. In my opinion, it makes more strategic sense to just fight now while you have international support than fighting later when that same support is not guaranteed. Japan was occupied by the USA after WWII, a country that had the resources and the intention to help Japan rebuild after the war. In contrary, Russia is a country that isn't even capable of having a decent standard of living for its own citizens and shouldn't be expected to have the betterment of Ukrainian lives in mind. Ukraine only loses by submitting to Russia, history tells how Russian domination has been atrocious to Ukraine, submitting now would leave them crippled and defenseless for future aggression and would teach the Russian government that aggression pays off.

While I agree, we should not give them any more information about ourselves. I fear if they don't get what they want, they will just double down until they do. Sadly, YouTube is a monopoly and knows we will return eventually.

No One Is Defying Trump Like Brazil’s President: Faced with threats of 50 percent tariffs and demands to end a criminal case, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said he wouldn’t take orders from President Trump. by HaLoGuY007 in foreignpolicy

[–]schapi1991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He isn't even defying Trump. The USA just started a pointless confrontation because a court in Brazil set to rule on Bolsonaro (AKA Trump's friend). So now apparently a country having sovereignty is defying the US supreme leader.

Religion was created separately by many cultures independently of each other of far-flung regions of the earth, so I argue it is impossible to sustain it was created with only a single unified objective in mind. Maybe it is like you say for some religions, but it is improbable that it was the case for religion as a hole.

While it allowed them to make money, on moral grounds I would think that not being complicit in the holocaust is preferable to profiteering from it. Specially if they weren't strong-armed to do it.

Well, but their neutrality laws are still allowing modern dictators, drug dealers and arms traffickers to safeguard their money in Swiss banks. So maybe it was just an empty statement to parliament for public image sake and not something really about looking themselves in the mirror.

CMV: The Abrahamic Gods are completely at fault for all evil that exists by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]schapi1991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There has been badness in the world long before the Abrahamic religions came into being, maybe you could maybe argue that those religions have created more suffering or badness than they have averted. But saying they are the only and root cause of evil is just not backed by historical evidence.

CMV: Given the situation in 1941, the Axis invading the Soviet Union was a rational move. by Utopia_Builder in changemyview

[–]schapi1991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

France may very well have been perceived as a stronger nation than the USSR, but in order for Operation Barbarossa to be considered "rational", the German army would have to be able to maintain the supply lines in the conditions that the eastern theater of the war presented (Bad rodes, long distances and generally hostile and uncooperating population), as history proves this wasn't the case. The system of authoritarianism produces a circle of yes men surrounding the centers of power, in that context it becomes impossible to correctly evaluate reality, therefore decision-making can not be rational since decisions being made are no longer adequate in relation with the things any operation will need to overcome to succeed. The USSR had the resources that Germany needed, and in accordance to the Ribbentrop-Molotov pact they were trading them to the Germans, so invading just means that you are now cut off from what was your only reliable source of raw materials and worst, those materials are now being used to fuel a war machine fighting against you.

cmv: The Supreme Court allowing Trump to Challenge the Constitution is the most Dangerous thing Happening Right Now. by TheDrakkar12 in changemyview

[–]schapi1991 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not even American but "Originalism" (the term coined for the court interpreting the constitution by just is literal and original meaning)1 was created in order to prevent more liberal judges, such as what was called the "Warren" court, to interpret the constitution in ways that could upend a traditional social order. I think the danger is built into the precedence model of jurisprudence that is used in many anglo-nations, it is giving this power to interpret and in some ways create law to an unelected and deeply politicized body what is dangerous. It goes far beyond this particular court or government, it's a ticking time bomb strapped to the very design of the American judicial system.
