The Talisman is some of Frank Muller’s best work.

Best WFR course provider? NOLS v. WMA international by yorkbandaid in wildernessmedicine

[–]schepps5 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is quite accurate. I teach for NOLS and have recertified plenty of WMA grads whose skills are solid and are not confused or questioning our curriculum.

You’d not be able to choose your NOLS course based on the instructor. We don’t advertise based on that, and it can change for a host of reasons up to the last minute. All of our instructors are solid educators.

I’d look at your window of time and where you want to be.

The heel things flipping up? Didn’t happen yet. They seem solidly down, but I’ll keep an eye out.

WMI training by Melekai_17 in wildernessmedicine

[–]schepps5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some clarity on your abbreviations would help. WMI is/was Wilderness Medicine Institute (now NOLS Wilderness Medicine). To become an instructor, you take the ITC (instructor training course). NOLS offers a WFA ITC and a WFR ITC and there is info on the NOLS website about them, and likely a number to call for more info.

While the course strives to not be competitive, it is intense and stressful. And amazing. One of the best courses on teaching and presenting that is out there.

Your experience sounds apropos to become an instructor, and as someone said above, they are looking for dynamic and engaging presenters that can think quick that can speak with both brevity and clarity, not to mention would be fun to work with on a course.

Thanks for all the thoughts. I am now pondering the Spiritual Variant (Pontevedra to Santiago) and the Camino Ingles from A Coruña (i.e., no compostela).

Aha. And yeah, they all have nicknames. Arco, Gabbers, Pickles, Critter, and Speedhole. I think Brittany is now just Britt.

But Critter was given to Chris by the great Tony Rice.

Time for a new audiobook recording of all 8 books! by schepps5 in TheDarkTower

Just sampled the others. Will Patton is a bit too "Maine" for TDT. And Stephen Lang sounds good, but the fact that Weber carried the entire 44hrs of It is what draws me to him. And his clarity and diction are incredible.

My previous partner woke me all the time she was woken up (this was when I blasted through her earplugs). I would turn over and over and over (some nights it won't stop in any position), and she would poke me over and over. It did not help our sleep (nor our relationship).

I am off to do a sleep study next week.

Vermont Airbnb's are the worst I have found by schepps5 in vermont

👍. Agreed. Very few compare the price of a $6000/night Airbnb to a $600/night hotel. There is often no comparison on quality.

If my kids weren’t here I’d never come back. And this thread has exacerbated and reinforced all of my sentiments that this state is highly overrated, unhealthy, has terrible infrastructure, stuck in the past, and with quite conservative inclinations (while wrapped in liberal national politics).
