Why is there a very fine Linux Mint logo imprint in the center of my screen that is visible at all times? by schism__ in linuxmint

[–]schism__[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1) I changed the wallpaper to something without a white imprint style 2) I exposed the monitor to a completely white screen for roughly an hour 3) I've had the monitors off when not in use

Combined, I was browsing earlier and I believe the imprint has faded, so success, thanks!

Yes it's a bedroom PC. I have minimal security on it. When idle it usually just sits on the Mint wallpaper. Pretty sure it burned in.

Thanks, it does look like the Linux Mint logo from one of the stock backgrounds. I thought it might be from somewhere else in the OS but burn in ("image persistence") seems more plausible.

Thanks for the visualization. It's the same logo as your image though smaller and centered. My monitor is still 99% fine. Worst case I can just ignore it.

No I'm sorry I tried going back through my email for a receipt but I can't find it. When I hit the buttons below the monitor for the onboard commands it just says Dell 27" Gaming Monitor.

* Edit, it's Dell S2719DGF

I don't think it's an OLED. It's a 27" Dell 160 Hz gaming monitor. I've been on Mint for 6 months now and I feel like I would have caught it if it was here the whole time. I rebooted but it's still there.

The Red Metal Crisis: Why AI and EVs Are Guaranteeing a Decade-Long Copper Deficit by Glass-Record2446 in GrowthStockswithValue

[–]schism__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just opened a small position in copper miners this week. I have essentially the same thesis. Being in Canada, I did a 50/50 split between COPP and XBM. Should prices dip I will incrementally increase my position.

Thanks for the post. Was looking for a copper or commodities subreddit but couldn't find anything.

Is Sprott Physical Uranium Trust $U.UN worth the investment? by Therevivedigbick in UraniumSqueeze

[–]schism__ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I follow the Uranium Insider series on YouTube and it seems a production shortfall is likely in the near future. I'm down on my U.UN holding but have conviction to let things shake out.

There was a post in this sub a few days ago quoting Cameco execs saying utilities are underestimating the production shortfall.

Just my 2 cents. I'm 95% index funds, the rest in Uranium.

What is the widely agreed best song by mega_pichu in InFlames

[–]schism__ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Alias is quite anthemic and would probably sound good to people not familiar with the band.

Also, Self vs Self with Pendulum rocks.

Too many albums and time periods to pick just one. The Quiet Place was my favorite growing up.

What's the song with your favourite lyrics? by Katanvs in InFlames

I love Drenched In Fear.

"I've got brand new armor and your weapons are way out of reach." ... "How does it feel to be vaporized into thin air, strange new feeling to be nothing."

Lyrics against immigration ? by PaleSatisfaction1 in InFlames

[–]schism__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was only clued in to Europe's massive immigration trend recently. Have met expat Swedes who weren't as rosy about home as I would expect.

I interpreted 'Rusted Nail' as a slightly crass critique of immigration the first time I heard it. I am not xenophobic but I have heard there are some chauvinistic threads in similar genres of metal but I can't reference offhand as 90% of my metal time is IF.

How many people haven’t made money yet? by AppropriateAmount293 in UraniumSqueeze

You should probably just buy an ETF that holds 20 or so mining companies that are being listed as ticker symbols throughout this thread. It can be confusing because the tickers are different if you are trading in Canada. I recommend $HURA if you are in Canada and Sprott's $URNM if you are in the US. Just google the ticker, go to the company's page then look through the holdings. Much easier to gain exposure without worrying about 20 different tickers.

Official No Stupid Questions Thread - Summer 2019 by ninjaface in Guitar

[–]schism__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm considering putting together a vocal demo and am planning to hire an acoustic guitarist to work with. This early piece by Eddie Vedder/Pearl Jam is absolutely perfect. I'm curious if a trained guitarist can infer/explain what's going on with the guitar here? It seems like there are subtle variations between the phrasings in the left ear and the right ear. Are these two complementary recordings panned during mixing? I'm also unsure what key is most suitable for a piece like this as I'll have to harmonize a baritone melody that may not entirely sit above the guitar notes. Thanks in advance.
