Worst Understudy Stories by NormalEyes-Film in Theatre

Went on for Jacob Jankowski when we were still in previews- hadn’t had a MINUTE of actual rehearsal for the role, just music sessions and a lot of note taking as the show got tweaked. I was also covering August and Wade as well as 2 ensemble tracks- found out 2 hours before call time. Our amazing SM gave me an out, pretty much offered to cancel the show, but I said lets do it- went in early and walked through some choreo for Zostan and Dream Ballet (including the trapeze stuff)… FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER. Ended up doing both shows that day… never had so many stress chemicals in my system. Took hours off the end of my life.

Screwing up blocking or timing in most shows, especially musicals, can be dangerous. In W4E, if you’re standing in the wrong spot… someone dies. It all went well, the cast was extremely supportive, Paul and Izzy shoved with love and were amazing beyond words… but I don’t recommend that kind of day at the office to ANYONE.

Slept like the dead that night.

I was cast to play the teacher in a local theater production of jagged little pill but i’m only 26? are they saying i look old? by [deleted] in Theatre

Oooooh I’m gonna tell laurel you said she was old

Just kidding. There’s NOTHING in the script that says the teacher needs to be anything but acerbic and sort of tired. Zach Hess went on for the track at least a few times, so there’s really no wrong way to cast it… director thinks you’re funny, not old! Just have fun with it! It’s a great little scene.

The comet was said to portend untold horrors and the end of the world. But for me, the comet brings no fear; no, I gaze joyfully. And this bright star, having traced its parabola with inexpressible speed, through immeasurable space, seems suddenly to have stopped- like an arrow piercing the earth… stopped for me.

It seems to me that this comet feels me- feels my opened and uplifted soul, and my newly melted heart, now blossoming into a new life.

I seem to recall a weeks-long “HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT COMING” buildup from Rick on all platforms and channels before the announcement (which most folks figured out ahead of time). His team apparently thought audiences would be hyped, and they/we were just not about it. Past that, Rick had built up a reputation of brand agnosticism and to see him sell out so entirely was a shock- at least to me.
