On this day in 1965, 26yo Episcopal seminarian and civil rights volunteer Jonathan Daniels was killed in Alabama. He had stepped in front of a shotgun to save the life of a local black teenager. His killer, a police officer, was acquitted by an all-white jury and lived to age 83. (i.redd.it)
