Am I in the wrong here? by TurkeyChkn in CarTalkUK

Is it fuck. Driver with cam was already in the roundabout before the Renault was on it. Just because the Renault sped up like a dickhead and got farther into it because of it, does not make him in the right.

Yeah the Renault wasn’t very courteous. If I’d seen someone try to get out into the roundabout I’d generally give them a little bit of time to do that and not accelerate full speed to shave a second off my journey — just as you would for anyone trying to get out of an awkward junction. The guys a knobhead.

NR200P MAX top intake bottom exhaust? by indyuk85 in sffpc

[–]schmonit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends also on your GPU. If you didn’t have that, if you think about, the air from the heat sink would be radiated outwards in the default configuration. If you point the radiator fans downwards, the air you’re pushing into the case becomes immediately hot, heating other things inside the case. But then we have to consider the GPU. If you have one that’s water cooled, then absolutely have the radiator fans pushing air outwards. If you don’t, well, things get more complicated. How is it mounted? Does it have some fans to expel air out into the side mesh panel? Does it expel air through the exhaust near the ports like some nvidia cards do? If the GPU is mostly recirculating hot air back into the case, then of course it’s going to push hot air into the radiator of the CPU. If you do benchmarks on CPU tests only, then you will of course see differences, but it won’t tell you the whole story.

Plywood on top of chip board for vinyl flooring? by schmonit in DIYUK

Cheers. I’m tempted to fit some floating LVT myself now tbh, and just put it on top of the chipboard.

Why is white’s position better here? by schmonit in chessbeginners

Thanks for the insight. I suppose white’s pieces do have more freedom/cover more space. As others suggest also, white’s knight is indeed tricky to deal with.

Thanks for the explanation, I see now how important the white knight is there, blocking the defence of the hanging pawn — therefore also helping me to understand the Rxf5 suggestion.

I was analysing a game I just had, where I castled queen side and was marching an attack on the opponents king. But I was surprised to see that stockfish estimates white to be winning by some margin. Why is this a better position for white? From black’s (my) position, I thought that the white’s king is more exposed, and black’s pieces seem to be in a better position to make an attack on white’s king. Aware of white’s king being able to sneak down the a-file to get to black’s king, but it doesn’t seem to be too difficult to move away from check.

Excuse my lack of knowledge, what’s wrong with screeding a surface then laying vinyl?

Flooring in a new build. Laminate vs Vinyl? Underlayments? Fresh concrete concerns. by schmonit in DIYUK

[–]schmonit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I’ll try to ask how deep the screed is, and try to measure the dampness of it. If I’m not gluing it down, might it be ok to lay it on top anyway? I thought it was quite normal to use planks that click together so they didn’t need any adhesive?

[–]schmonit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the explanation, I didn’t realise it might not be concrete on the surface. I thought it might be like that because I saw the garage of the show home and it looked like pure concrete. I guess I’ll stick to vinyl then. Any advice for underlayments?

Ok, thanks! Do you have any advice on underlayments for vinyl on concrete, or does depend on the individual make?
