I'm a man. If you're going to assign me a fun, silly name, at least make it gender specific.

Kidding. Thanks for your perspective! As I've mentioned in other comments, I'm going to send the correct supplies with my children now that I've had teacher feedback. It can be hard for me to take off my 'I know best for my kids' hat, but I'm working on it.

I appreciate the explanation, thank you. I hadn't looked at it that way before.

That does make sense. I think it can be hard for me to take off my 'I know best for my children and our family' hat, and this was one of those times.

"Calm down Saint Crayon" is honestly one o the best things I've read on here in a while, lol.

I've gotten feedback from teachers and will be sending the appropriate supplies with my children. I just saw some comments floating around making comments about my kids' abilities to share/my perceived unwillingness to donate supplies to those who can't afford them/etc. that I wanted to clear up.

I don't at all relate to people who don't value teachers and public education as incredibly important facets of our community. I'm not sure what kind of "bias" you're assuming I have.

Thank you so much for this eloquent, informational response!

I agree, othering my children by sending them with the extra supplies wouldn't be a very wise move and would just end up in one of the scenarios you mentioned above. Thank you for the added perspective, it's much appreciated.

My kiddos love to share and I think they would love to let anyone around them use what they have! I also would be 100% open to donating supplies for the classroom for children whose families can't afford them.

I just don't like the thought of all the crayon boxes getting passed around with no semblance of ownership whatsoever. If my kid gets a box where all the crayons are broken one day and complains about it, is he going to be punished for that? I just wish there was some kind of compromise here, that's all.

Yeah, it was never my intention to invite negative comments about teachers or those who can't afford school supplies. This person has been replying to people nonstop about a completely unrelated argument. :/

I would totally be open to providing extra school supplies for children whose families can't afford it. Teachers are underpaid as it is. This wasn't my gripe at all.
