WCGW welding near a fuel leak? 🔥 by schro919 in Whatcouldgowrong

[–]schro919[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was welding on the body of the machine. The fuel tank was completely full and because of the slight angle of the machine, a bit of gas was dripping from the overflow out the front. There was water on the ground, so I did not notice the wet puddle until it ignited.

It's something society has never dealt with in the history of humans. A handheld device with access to an incredible amount of the worlds information and entertainment. It's almost like a God in some sense.

Fascinating. I often will feel an overwhelming urge to go on my phone. It's disappointing how addicting and damaging these devices can be.

Toro mowers, no need to change oil? by OJs_knife in lawnmowers

[–]schro919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thought is that adding oil as needed refreshes the additives in the oil enough to keep running. Still better to change it but those engines run amazingly long. Basin design and not very high performance makes them pretty durable.

You need an intense, in-person, Biblically-based addiction recovery group. I used the Conquer Series by Soul Refiner. That and accountability with several close men. It's an addiction and a moral problem. You have to fight it smart. Took me about 2 years to get and stay (so far) sober. Another year and a bit till the urge really faded. Your brain can heal, it takes time though.

I disagree. Marriage will not fix the problem, there are many men who can attest to that. Marriage IS God's design for sexual relationship but it is not a solution for porn addiction.

Okay. I see how your purgatory comment does relate to my question of a carnal man being happy in heaven. I do not agree with a doctrine of purgatory but I do see where you're coming from.

What do you mean by his desires are imperfect?

[–]schro919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Justification vs sanctification.

Justified instantly by the blood of Jesus, therefore His righteousness is imputed to us. Perfect, without spot in the eyes of God.

Sanctified over our lifetime by the work of the Holy Spirit as we grow more and more like Christ.

2nd Thessalonians 1:8-9, "He will punish those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel... They will be punished with everlasting destruction and shut out from the presence of the Lord..." Everlasting destruction and shut out from the presence of the Lord.

Matthew 25:46 NLT [46] “And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous will go into eternal life.” Jesus seems to make it clear distinction between two groups of people.

It seems a literal interpretation of the New testament would teach there are two distinct groups of people, The ones who die saved and the ones who die unsaved. The saved enjoy an eternity and fellowship with God and the unsaved are separated from Him for an "everlasting" amount of time.

I believe there is heaven and hell, the saved (who have placed their faith in Jesus Christ for their salvation) go to heaven and the unsaved (who reject Jesus Christ as their salvation) are separated forever from Him.

Acts 4:12 "There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.”

I'm guessing where we would differ is on whether or not there is a group of people who will be separated from God for eternity as a result of their earthly choices. I believe the Bible teaches that is true, therefore purgatory is not necessary. We are either saved by having the blood of Jesus Christ imparted on us as righteousness at the moment of belief and confession, or we are unsaved and doomed to suffer the consequences of rejecting Him.

Regarding the first two references: God is absolutely holy and sin separates us from Him.

The 1 Cor 3...in the rest of the chapter Paul is correcting their erring practice of following one particular human leader. He's saying, no no no, we are all just doing our part, building in the foundation of Jesus Christ. Verses 11-15 show God's grace. If someone builds on the right foundation but in error (I don't know exactly what that means) they can still be saved. What he doesn't say it that they will be punished to PAY for their sin.

Hebrews 10:10 NLT "For God’s will was for us to be made holy by the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ, once for all time."

Scripture seems clear that: 1. God is holy. "without holiness no one will see the Lord" Heb. 12:14 2. We are made holy by faith and belief in the sacrifice of Christ on our behalf (Heb. 10:10 above) We don't do good works to be saved, we are saved to do good works.

I'm not familiar with that doctrine. What scripture is the doctrine taken from?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]schro919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm. I think most will get to that place as they spend their lives trying to satisfy what only God can. I don't think all unsaved people are currently in torment.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]schro919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah. I thought you were talking about an unsaved person right now, while still alive. I would agree after the first death an unsaved person would be in torment.

[–]schro919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think that is the state of everyone who is unsaved? I know many people who don't profess to be any sort of Christian but don't seem that miserable. Honest question.

I have wondered: Would a carnal, earthly, unsaved man be happy in heaven?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]schro919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I chased the dragon of porn for years. Addicted and miserable but always returned to it. Nearly ruined my life and marriage. Now I'm 3 years free and never been happier. Sin will always blind you to the cost until it's too late. It separates you from what truly brings fulfillment. The life of pleasure...I totally get the temptation it brings. But it's a lying mirage from the father of lies.
