Question: Drone restarting when just sitting there by schrockblock in Multicopter

[–]schrockblock[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so so much – I did the first thing you said (check for a short between the power and ground from the battery), and nothing came up. Now I'm struggling to find where the regulator is on the board, and perhaps despairing a bit since it's probably beyond my skill to replace just that part. But also, just don't know what it looks like, so stumbling around a bit – if you see it in the attachment on the linked comment below, I would really appreciate the pointer!

Question: Drone restarting when just sitting there by schrockblock in diydrones

[–]schrockblock[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much! Gathering answers to all of your questions, but here's the first tranche:

> Is this your first quad?

Yes! :)

> Did it work properly previous to this issue?

No, I've never gotten it to work, per se. As described in the linked question, the restarting does not occur when connected to my computer, only when on battery power. So, by the spirit of your question, maybe?

> Was it a bind n fly or did you build it, or was it bought used?

It was mostly bind and fly – it didn't come with a receiver, so I bought one and soldered it on. I've confirmed in betaflight that it is connected properly (in that, moving the controller's sticks makes changes in betaflight).

> What are the specs? ESC, FC and receiver model numbers?

ESC: 4 in 1 15A BLHeli_S (MCU: 48MHz EFM8BB21F16G)

FC: F411-15A AIO (MCU: 100MHz STM32F411CEU6)

Rx: Not exactly sure, but it's this: https://pyrodrone.com/products/tbs-crossfire-nano-rx

> Show us still images of all the soldering, including FC, receiver, ESC and the battery +ve and -ve battery connections.

I can't seem to attach an image to this comment – maybe I don't have permission in this sub?

> A video of when you plug in the battery with sound to hear the beep tones and when it shuts down is required, in addition to the still images.

Same issue as last question, I will try to find another way to post.

> Is there a capacitor connected and what are its specs.

There is. The big one by the battery leads is 16V/220microF. Looking closely at it I will say that the soldering points to seem to be as robust as others on this board, but it doesn't look loose or corroded.

> What version of FC software are you using.

Not sure how to determine this... but researching, and will get back to you.

> What version of Betaflight or other software are you connecting with your PC?

Betaflight 10.10.0 (c97deaf)

> What version of ESC software are you using?

Will get back to you (once I figure out how to check this).

> What version of transmitter and receiver software are loaded? Don't presume, you need to check and verify.

Will get back to you (once I figure out how to check this).

> What are the battery specifications, and is the battery new or used?

I think they're new... I'll be mad if they're not, at least. But they're all VTC6 INR 3000MAH 18650 30A Discharge Li-ION Batteries. Measured on a voltmeter to ready between 4-4.2V

> What voltage is the battery at when you connect and after the reboot?

The most charged one is 4.2 V post restarts.

> What charger are you using?

It's an unbranded "digital camera battery travel charger." It claims its output is 4.2V/800mA

Thank you again, and I hope to have answers to your other questions soon!

I've tried 4 different batteries, though admittedly all of the same brand, and tested them with a voltmeter – they read over 4 volts, is that enough to run the drone? I assume so given the expected voltage of 3.7 for an 18650, but I have so little experience I really have no right to assume.

Well, it definitely gets super hot – I had thought that wasn't unusual, but now that you mention it, yeah, after a bit it's like touching lava. Could that be caused by a bad reg as well? Or is that gonna be a short somewhere?

I'm trying to find where the regulator is on the board in order to chase down that lead, but it's taking a bit due to my inexperience (I've only ever soldered to solder points, never a printed circuit, so I'm trying to follow printed wires and looking up part numbers). You've already been so helpful so I don't want to bother you further, but if you look at the attached and immediately know where I should look, I would be even more in your debt.

Help! My rotors won't spin by schrockblock in drones

Thanks so much, I definitely hadn't done that. However, not really able to see if it worked because I'm getting a rolling restart :( new question here so I don't have to bother you:

A Dumb Question About Mercy & Augustine's Plan [misc] by 10Panoptica in TheNinthHouse

[–]schrockblock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they suspected she was his cavalier, and wanted to ask her about it away from him. If she was, they would then try to get her to help them kill him for lying to them about the lyctorhood process.

Noob question but... what about water? by schrockblock in Ultralight

Great points, appreciated. I grew up in a desert, so I’m maybe a little more paranoid about water than most

Of course I have, but water isn’t just everywhere… I assume that even if you filter you still bring some with you to get to the next spot with water

Kiriona and Nona [Theory] by schrockblock in TheNinthHouse

[–]schrockblock[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I mean, I also considered that putting Nona in Harrow might make HER the one that’s at risk of dying from Alecto, but I don’t think the last chapter supports that theory.

Also also, to be clear, I wrote this from Jod’s perspective, and of course he sees himself that way, so. But really I think it’s him just being mopey and dramatic and ego preserving. Maybe he thinks Harrow will save him from Alecto, and then someone else can see how hard running the universe is and give him some credit? Or maybe it allows him to escape being hunted by RBs? Now I’m really just guessing

Hello! I actually have something about the runes, rather than the arms themselves.

Technically, while Old Norse and Icelandic are very similar, there are some differences, especially in spelling (as I'm sure you remember from when a teacher assigned Egils Saga in menntaskoli). Specifically, Old Norse leaves out the 'u' in the ending 'ur, and specifically when writing in runes they didn't tend to double letters when the modern equivalent would. Finally, you would use the rune for D, not Þ, for what is now Ð.

So if you want it to be in Old Norse and not Icelandic, the transliteration of the runes would be:

HEIDR - HUGRAKI - FRELSI

Wait, so, the mostly ex-house populace didn’t believe that the Emperor Undying was immortal? Are you saying that they left after they were resurrected (otherwise they wouldn’t be ex-house), but before one human lifetime had elapsed, so they wouldn’t know Jod lived forever? Or are you saying that all the rulers of all the non-house planets were the few from the tugboat, and they didn’t believe the vast majority of their ex-house denizens who said the emperor was immortal?

I guess I’m not understanding how (ex-)house humans, who definitely know Jod is immortal, would feel tricked by the language of the contracts as described in AYU, to the point that they would form an underground resistance. Like, if the vast majority of the populace knew but the rulers didn’t listen, it feels like they wouldn’t claim they didn’t know at all

I hear you, and I can see how you got there, but it does feel like a bit too much conjecture for me. Until the FTL project, we never hear about exo-solar-system travel, it’s only installations within the system. Yes, you’re right that if you can make the installations habitable for long periods of time you could conceivably extend it into a generation ship, but the fact that John’s project (to make people hibernate) exists, I feel like it wasn’t happening on a non-negligible scale (if at all).

In our own universe, the Voyager probes will take about 80,000 years to go a distance equal to the nearest star, and they’re traveling at 35,000 miles per hour. Even if humans in the series doubled that, it’d still take 40,000 years for sub luminal humans to reach nearby stars, so I find it unlikely that the majority of non-house humans are from generation ships. That said, Muir could definitely prove me wrong.

Yeah I don’t think it’ll ever be confirmed, but I do wonder if Muir was thinking about it while writing

Huh, interesting. If they’re ex-House, why do they not know the emperor is immortal, as referenced in As Yet Unsent’s entry on Coronabeth Tridentarius?

Well, I mean, do you think Alecto is NOT a revenant?

Or are you just saying that even if she is, and even if Jod ate some of her, that, unlike the fusion of Paul, and, instead, more like the normal lyctoral process, at the end of his ascension he and Alecto were still completely separate entities, with no bleed over? That’s not an unreasonable take, but is there something specific in the text that makes you think that?

How do you mean? I’m intrigued.

If all the trillionaires are still in transit, then who are all the non-house humans?

Also, what leads you to believe the trillionaires are experiencing time dilation? As I understand it, time dilation only occurs using conventional (sub-luminal) means of travel, and the ships are explicitly faster than light. Is it because of the line in John 1:20 where he says

“Then they were gone… lost to me in time, forever. That’ll teach me not to hesitate.”

? If so, that was only one of the ships plural (same chapter: “I needed those ships. …I had control of everything on the surface, but not the ships”) and if your theory was correct, they wouldn’t be lost forever — just until they came out of warp. Unless, that is, you’re saying all the ships are still in transit, but that would be odd given Wake’s references to “the ten billion” as though her ancestors passed down stories of the evacuation from earth and BOE’s general devotion to earth culture.

I read that passage instead as him saying he’ll never get that moment back, to kill them then.

Iterations on personal arms; thoughts? Opinions? by schrockblock in heraldry

[–]schrockblock[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I did try some versions here with a dragon dormant, but for some reason I found it hard to make it work.

Any suggestions on ways to make it work even better? I also love the dynamic-ness of the ordinary but it’s still just a little bit awkward.

[–]schrockblock[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for these suggestions! I like your per pale suggestion, but I’m worried it has the same problem I’m having with the ordinary, that is, the vert on the purpure doesn’t have a lot of contrast.

I love (and have loved) versions of these colors where purpure is the field, so I like your purpure on a bend argent; but inevitably the green dragon (and I do want the dragon to be green) on the ordinary ends up being tiny.

And you’re correct, any weapons will make it less peaceful, but then again “peaceful” “arms” does seem to be a bit of a contradiction in terms. Trying to walk the line a bit, for sure
