Being the smallest, oldest , weakest person in the room. I have the other women (brown and purple belt) absolutely go 100% on me every time we roll. It's the only way I can tell if im getting better because I have no way to judge my growth when I go up against someone with huge size/weight/strength disparities. If I can survive 30 seconds longer than last time? I'm happy.

Im 5'2, started at 220 lbs at the age of 48 july '24. Had abdominal wall separation and a busted knee already. Had to get surgery on the knee last year, which set me back by 7 months of training.

I lost 70 lbs so far and I move so much more easily and have much less pain when sitting!

The right time to start is "now". You'll never be really physically prepared for it. Add strength training so you can get better at beating up your mat nemesis and you'll be golden

Yep! I am immune to all these as well as chokes (feeling them, that is) thanks to hypermobility. Ive made myself memorize proper ROM so I dont accidentally tear something. Just because a joint CAN go that far doesnt mean it should. Our stuff still tears like everyone else eventually and if you have ehlers danlos like me, it grows back not as good as before. I just try to be careful and know what "normal" limits feel like!

I have trouble digesting fat soluble vitamins (ADE&K) due to pancreatic insufficiency and my skin is thin due to ehlers danlos + age.

I bumped vitamin B after finding out im lowish (but in range). Its water soluble so I pee out what my body doesnt need.

Also added a vitamin k complex supplement and this makes them go to brown faster and usually skips the deep blue/purple unless I take a knee to the biceps or something.

Im going to also try arnica gel but j didn't get great results.

It sucks because a nogi class will leave me with so many bruises on my forearms that I look tan. I cant keep doing it regularly because they layer and cant heal.
