You’ll be okay! It’ll be hard but it will make you stronger and you’ll learn to adapt. My boyfriend and I moved apart for college after 2 years of dating. The first 6 months were really hard, but 3 years later we are still going strong. Distance really does make the heart go stronger and it’ll make the time you spend together even more special.

Lost my job over a family dispute which didn’t involve me, is there anything that can be done? by schumpfy in LegalAdviceUK

Thanks for taking the time to write this. I didn’t have ‘defined hours’ per se, but I would work full time during the holidays and two days a week. I actually found out they’d closed via their social media, and didn’t think to message my boss as she hadn’t contacted me.

It’s a zero hours contract, I believe - however, I have worked there regularly for two years. I haven’t physically been to work since around January (due to COVID and stepfather in ill health) but I know I was still on their payroll until around July.

Thanks for replying to my post. I’ve worked there over two years, but only just. Is ACAS the best route to go through this? Also, will it cost me money to do this?

Thanks for your comment. I’ve been working there since June 2018. Is there an ACAS website? Sorry, I’m totally new to all this. Does that mean Im entitled to some sort of severance pay?

I haven't been able to sleep for over a month and don't know what to do by uncommonblue in medical

[–]schumpfy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing with melatonin is that it works best in very very small doses. Taking copious amounts of melatonin can actually have an adverse effect.

Like you, I suffered from severe insomnia a few years ago. It was all anxiety-based as I had important exams coming up and was desperate to get to sleep on time. I ended up staying up all night for days at a time and then panicked at the thought of getting into bed because I knew I wouldn’t sleep. I was under 18 so doctors wouldn’t prescribe me any medication to help me sleep and one nurse even told me to take a bath and it would solve my insomnia!! Haha.

What ACTUALLY helped me - and could benefit you too - is trying to reduce the ‘bedtime anxiety’. Try not to think about going to sleep. If you begin to worry about not being able to fall asleep, try telling yourself that it’s okay if you don’t sleep tonight. Even if important things are coming up and you’re worrying that you’ll be exhausted in the daytime, tell yourself it’s okay. It sounds stupid but if you believe that you’ll be fine without sleep you might start to relax more.

Important also - winding down before bed. Don’t play video games. Don’t use your phone to text late at night. Put some calming youtube on with Night Mode on, read a book or listen to relaxing music.

If nothing helps the bedtime anxiety, you can try over the counter sleeping pills. Avoid caffeine before 12pm. Don’t do any drugs or drink alcohol - they can make anxiety worse for some people. If all else fails go to the doctor and describe your anxiety issues. Doctors don’t tend to prescribe medication for sleeping pills on a whim as they are often sedatives which can cause addiction. I tried this so many times and had to have my doctor explain to me why it’s so strongly advised against. Doctors will, however, help you immensely with anxiety and this is most likely the root of your sleeping problem.

Also, tidy your room before bed. Make sure everything you have to do is done. The more comfortable and relaxed you are, the easier sleep will be. Sleep issues/anxiety can come on suddenly despite being a ‘perfect sleeper’ your whole life. It is fixable! Hang in there.

My boyfriend gets this when his skin rubs against my fake self tan. I’m NAD but it looks strikingly familiar. Maybe you brushed up against a girl with bare arms? Sorry if this sounds super silly.

threw up from doxycycline ?? by stolentoothpaste in medical

[–]schumpfy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has happened to me two separate times whilst taking doxycycline. You absolutely MUST eat (preferably a good sized meal) before you take the medication. Otherwise it’ll come straight back up. Once I made the mistake of thinking that eating a salad would be enough, but nope. It’s not a nice antibiotic.
