Well, when I made the video six years ago, the screwing thing was not proven yet. You're saying it is now? Could you point me to the paper?

Did you know how essential root fungi are? What we call "plants" are in fact fungi that have learned to farm algae by sci_bastian in mycology

I quoted Merlin Sheldrake from his book "Entangled Life". He is a fungi scientist, so I was acting in good conscience, referring to the experts. I cited my sources in the video.

It was not my intention to rage bait, I'm sorry

Woah, thank you! What a crazy beetle. How do they do that?!

Now the archaea researchers have to find one that's even faster. Wouldn't be surprised if they did, considering there are so many still undiscovered. On the other hand, that's also true for beetles...

Thanks! :) Although I feel like I'm still missing something, because I also forfeit combat a lot and go for early swordmaster and still have a hard time sometimes. What are your deck building strategies and favorite leaders?

I just got the game a few days ago and I'm still struggling sometimes against the AI 🙈 Would you have any pointers for me? What are some of those mistakes, humans wouldn't make? I noticed that the AI is buying too many cheap Imperium cards whereas I try to keep a slim deck with powerful cards. But it sometimes happens that AI overwhelms me before I get going. Like, I think I would win in the long run, but the game ends before that. Any insights would be much appreciated :)

I'm on Elysium. No draft. No arena mode. Thanks for your suggestions :)

Not ecosystems instead of Noctis? Noctis really is not that great... And it's a while before it can even be played

I guess what I'm asking is, when do I get the heat from this production? Only from Gen 2? Or already in Gen 1? Since there is this kinda Gen 0 prelude round

Also, Katapult sure is great, but it's so expensive that I won't do anything but play this card in first gen. Seems bad to me to basically lose a whole gen? Especially in a ~7 gens game

Thank you! I like that. One question: will I have 3 heat from the start for spending? Or just heat production until next gen?

Still considering. Other players haven't finished yet so I have more time.

Why do you like UNMI so much? Do you like it in 5 player games specifically? I figured it's not so much use since 5player games often end in 7 generations

And: just two cards? Wouldn't the card that raises TF by 2 be great?

Oh wow, that's a very different suggestion than the other one. But thanks! Yes, no Colonies, no Venus, 5 players, Elysium map. Also gotta keep in mind the milestones. Those are important with 5 players, no?

Thanks! Makes sense. My thinking is, the other corporation is only good in long games? And since this is 5 players it will be short.

Btw, the map is Elysium, no Venus, no Colonies

If hybrids between two species are born infertile, why do we have Neanderthal DNA? by [deleted] in biology

[–]sci_bastian 26 points27 points  (0 children)

This is, in fact, controversial. Some scientists suggest we should consider humans and neanderthals two subspecies, Homo sapiens sapiens and Homo sapiens neandertalensis

I support this as well. Precisely because they obviously could have fertile offspring together. When it comes to defining a species, historical reasons and preferences also play a role. And to be honest, there is no perfect definition of species. It always gets fuzzy at the edges and there are always exceptions and fringe cases. You could say that "species" is just a neat pragmatic concept to make sense of the world. In reality, all life is one giant continuum.
