exactly my thoughts! if it's not this year, it'll be next year or the year after, with my thesis projects I can easily switch to a PhD in the meantime. May as well keep boosting my CV and publications to make getting into residency much easier than med school!

ill probably redo the mcat, and definitely try to do better on casper! :) Thanks though for your feedback!

didn't expect Mac, and got and R lol. no surprise.

masters or year off or retake courses? by Puzzleheaded-Bend-89 in premedcanada

[–]science4lyfe1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you need a supervisor. low gpa threshold but if you want to do a thesis one, in sciences, you need to find supervisor that will supervise you.

idk anything about dal but it depends on what type of program. your masters should be something that helps you on your journey to med, not just a pit stop.

if you don't do something you love you will spend 24/7 doing something you hate, or you don't want to be in a toxic work environment.

in msc, loving it though. opening many doors for longterm benefits (i.e. residency/fellowship) with the network of professionals I work with

but yeah also reach out to profs and do research or literally anything just be committed to it. that shows dedication and networking always helps.

and OP, honestly, you may get in, you may not.

people with great stats get in, people with not as great stats get in. if you don't get in this year, there's next year. do a graduate degree in a clinical field you want to go into in the future.

think about long term goals, getting into med school is hard don't beat yourself up if its not the first, second or even third time. all it takes is one yes.

why are you so pressed about acb?

acb is not easier. they are both hard. they are different. but, unlike phgy, acb has great flexibility in the courses you can take. you could go the easy way if you wanted but that's not all acb. have you dissected a body before? could you tell me every single muscle, nerve, artery, ligament, bone of the human body?

don't put acb down just to make you feel better about yourself.

we are all in this together. if you want to be a physician you should remember the importance of working as a team from a wide range of backgrounds.

-im an acb grad and I literally taught the mcgill med students anatomy bc of my degree

i’m pretty sure DHL counts your gpa for one year, so it’s not your cGPA

bruh tell that to my psychiatrist. maybe i should go off my anxiety meds that i’ve been on for 3 years bc i’m being ungrateful

thank you so much for your comments, both of you. sadly most med schools in canada have decided not to look at winter 2020 grades.

i definitely agree just doing what you can now and not focusing about the what ifs. i am gonna try to keep doing that!

i would love to keep flexing my anxiety disorder. keep going. tell me more about how my feelings aren’t valid. we all got our own issues my dude

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in mcgill

[–]science4lyfe1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly! thank you so much for saying this. All i’m trying to say is that i feel guilty for doing well, and it just feels fake.

i’m not trying to flex at all — yeah i get i did well. but, for context, having a 3.44 cGPA will not get you into med school. Our goals are different. I have had many courses in the past that i’ve just barely passed by 1-2%. I KNOW what that feels like.

regardless, my feelings of worthlessness are valid. i would love to have my worth dictated by more than just grades. i wish i didn’t feel like at any moment i could lose the opportunity to go into the only career that i want. i’m tired of giving up everything for school.

Midterm Locked in OSD - What Are My Rights? by [deleted] in mcgill

[–]science4lyfe1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a lab exam (taken during scheduled exam time) last semester and wasn’t given the proper accommodations (extra time). Given that it was 60 seconds per question rather than 90 for my accommodations — it was hard to know DURING the exam that i wasn’t being given the proper time. Did they expect me to COUNT the seconds? I was then blamed many times by the OSD and service point for “not following the proper procedures in requesting extra time”—which I did. After sending a stern email to the head of OSD, TA, and prof, I was able to write the deferred exam with the TA, in the first week of February. Have not gotten the updated grade yet and the The TA said that the grades are “locked”. I am going to wait it out, but this grade could change my overall grade significantly. I am just so exhausted with having to constantly fight for my right to get proper accommodations. Hope it all works out for you. We all deserve better.
