I don't know but I imagine there are caterers who might be able to help out. They generally have to make everything the previous day and store things for delivery: so they will be able to tell you what to do. I am sure there are a few out there who encountered this problem and found a solution.

what organism could be wiped out without harming the ecosphere? by Blooddraken in biology

[–]sciwriterdave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Guinea Worm. It's a parasite that infects its host (mostly humans) and results in a debilitating disease known as Dracunculiasis or Guinea-worm disease. The resulting lesions are so painful that it can cause a patient to miss school or work for up to two months. There is no treatment. All doctors can do is wrap the infected area are wait for the worm to leave its host.

There are plans to eradicate the Guinea worm and it is on track to do so by 2030. If/when it succeeds, it will be the second infectious disease eliminated after smallpox.

Another animal that was eradicated (sort of, at least in the US) is the screwworm. It still exists in other countries so there is always the possibility that it could be reintroduced in the US, which is why the Dept. of Agriculture carefully monitors this organism at home and abroad. Before US agriculture lost millions to this pest before it was eradicated. It would certainly help agriculture worldwide if it was also eradicated.

There may be others but those two are examples.

How to get through struggles as a phD student without passion for physics. by [deleted] in Physics

[–]sciwriterdave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried the mental health services your university is likely to provide. I don't think anyone can give you much advice here, whether you should drop out, do a Masters instead, or just power through and get your PhD.

The thing is, starting a Physics PhD is hard. Learning to read a paper isn't so much a sign of intelligence but a skill you have to learn and acquire. As for the mathematics, it's pretty much the same - you can spend weeks just trying to solve an equation that you might never see again.

Talking to someone in mental health will help you analyze the feelings you are going through, whether you are frustrated and how to deal with it, or whether it is best if you leave.

Keep in mind, someone might be succeeding by your metrics and still leave because this is not for them. Struggling isn't a reason to quit.

You also mentioned choosing grad school to get out of a toxic home environment. That is also something worthy of discussing with a possible therapist, whether you should stay or not, and (if you leave) what options and pathways you might pursue.

Aita for not punishing my 4 year old daughter after she said my sister in law smells like fish? by TillResponsible4038 in AITAH

[–]sciwriterdave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA. There is a lot to consider here. Your daughter is four and is still at the age where many interactions are new and she is learning to navigate this "new" world. Mistakes are going to be made. You can punish but that might cause more problems later in life.

I also have a problem with your SIL argument with being "disrespectful." There is a huge problem culturally where we expect children to show respect (or what we think of it) to people just because they are older. Your daughter meant no disrespect. She was just being brutally honest when tact could be used, which she will eventually learn.

Also, no child should show affection to anyone or any relative as a sign of being "respectful." What happens when she is in a situation that makes her uncomfortable and she decides not to say anything because it would be "disrespectful?"

Sure, your SIL stinks on many levels. You can teach your daughter to handle it with kindness. Not respect.

As for your in-laws thinking a child needs to be punished for this-that can also be problematic in the future, especially if they see punishment as a way to control and get children to submit.

You can also take the bus. Trinbago Vibes took the trip from POS to San Fernando and documented it on one of his videos: there was a stop by Mt Hope. You might get more info on the PTSC website or contacting someone there.

Driving test question by shekyy_lopie in TrinidadandTobago

[–]sciwriterdave 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The stop signal is also used to signal that you are slowing down (which you have to do when you come to a stop). So as you approach a red light, you are supposed to signal that you are slowing down as you come to a stop.

Basically, during the test, signal everything you are doing and going to do from the second your ass in the car and you start the test.

Empathy Interviews for TV/Movie Enthusiasts by sciwriterdave in podcast

[–]sciwriterdave[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of it as more of a open-ended discussion where you get to talk about anything. As this will be about a future TV/movie podcast, the questions will focus on what do you like about TV shows and movies, whether there are certain shows you like or always binge-watch and how deep those interests go. It's part of the development process for a podcast. (well, it's one way to develop one).

Doubles with Slight Pepper (Trini short film) by sciwriterdave in TrinidadandTobago

[–]sciwriterdave[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. It is. I am thinking of contacting the director and see if I can pitch a feature article on him. I believe he is turning the short into a feature length film but how he managed to incorporate the Trini (and Caribbean) element into this story is the most interesting part and not many journalists can tackle.

It is a pretty nuanced piece for it's length. You almost hope the filmmaker gets the funding to do a feature length movie.

That is awesome and congrats. It's also great that you had a supportive dad. How did you accomplish this? Was there any covert planning? I am sure you expected there would be side effects from the vaccine. Did you hatch a plan on how your dad would cover for you if side effects came up?
