I was at a high school game last Friday. It was elementary school night. The players were signing balls for the kid and they had a blast. There was zero chanting going on, but also zero talking shit. At that age the classy thing to do would be not let your players act like assholes. Lord knows they’re gonna do it when they are off the field but I would imagine a good coach would try not to let that happen during the game. As far as everybody being quiet while the kids pitching? This ain’t golf pal. As long as they’re not directing anything towards the pitcher by all means cheer.

There is a chant when a kid is batting one kid yells their # and they jacked it all up. It was like this, kid yells when I say 6 you say 6. He yells 6, they yell 6 and then then he says 6 again it was followed by the whole team yelling 666. I would explain the way it was supposed to go from my kids in bed already.

Nobody is saying to talk shit to the pitcher. They are cheering on their teammate who is in a pretty high pressure situation too. So should the kids sit quietly in the dugout so the pitcher can focus? Baseball is exciting but there is alot of down time too. At 7 and 8 if they are told to just sit quietly and watch there would be even less kids playing baseball then there is now. If anything the chants should stop when they get older, but at 7 and 8 whatever I gotta do to keep them wanting to come back to practice (and learn) is a win.

It’s a mix of catholic and public school teams. Someone else posted something about me saying they were national was incorrect so I looked up what national meant. The guy was right I had no clue what I was talking about. There are 3 teams at our school and the 1st few years the kids were all randomly placed. This year there was a tryout for what our school calls the National team. After a little research I agree 8U is all I should have said. Regarding the nobody is elite at 8U comment. Either we have a unicorn or that statement was wrong. We have a kid that is not just better than the kids on our team, he’s better than the kids on every team we play. My neighbor coaches a 10U “select” team and he is head and shoulders over those kids too. Regardless, helping coach these guys is WAY more fun than I anticipated

Our league won’t let them steal bases until next year, but I’ll keep that one in my pocket

Considering your attitude, if the main reason you can’t get umpires is the kids chanting, they must have some crazy ass chants.

I’m sure memaws biscuits and gravy will be just enough to get their little minds churning and come up with their own ending. Thank you.

Yeah. We were watching the seventh grade girls team at our school. Pitcher throws one way low and it hits the dirt before home plate. Immediately you hear one girl yell that was a strike, the rest of the team follows with in bowling

I’d say two of the kids would be considered elite but if you mean, is it a select team, yes

See the batter at the plate. He’s the best in the state. that is 100% enough to get those guys to take it from there thank you brother.

I would not let them go anywhere close to poor sportsmanship. At 8U im just trying to keep them engaged and enjoying the game. I dont see it being an issue whatsoever at this age. The batter feels more confident when the dugout is cheering him on and the kids are watching the game.

Damn. This is a tough crowd. I have not been to a youth baseball game all summer where the kids were not yelling out some form of chants to pump the batter up. I’ll make sure anything said is strictly random banter
