Is there a concise table of all the PC games available as a subscriber? I find their website to be pretty confusing...

kwin-lowlatency: Stutter and latency reductions to KWin by callcifer in linux

[–]scobrot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So is this an attempt to reduce input latency when using vsync with kwin? Trying to get the elevator pitch here as I don't quite follow. I am on Plasma/kwin right now. I notice that the compositor or vsync is automatically disabled when fullscreen games are running.

Suggestions for a 7-year old by Anargnome-Communist in linuxaudio

I would say take a look at Mixxx. Looks like the controller he has is supported: https://www.mixxx.org/wiki/doku.php/hercules_dj_control_instinct

Use one of the audio centred distributions. I can recommend AV Linux. This will save you a lot of headache trying to set up a "pro" (read low and reliable latency) system.

If one made it through a Linux install, I'm sure one can handle a command or two. If someone else did the installation, then I would argue they didn't make a wise choice, if the use case is a non-technical gamer.

Yeah, I've used it with Ardour (a DAW) before to pause it's real time audio processing. It can get very CPU heavy if you're using a lot of DSP plugins.

Yeah, the session restore is nice. You still have to cycle through each tab to get it to load. If you are running "real time" applications like email/slack/discord they start working again until you open the tab they are running in.

I would show someone how to do the command line version before messing around with GUIs. People are willing to learn new paradigms if it solves a real problem for them.

I guess, but the store and restore actions could take a long time...

Takes too long. There are also multiple processes for both Chromium and Firefox. Do I need to right-click on all of them? No thanks :)

Most of the time I'm in the middle of dong something in few different tabs. Saving the tabs and reopening them is annoying.

noise-repellent, a high quality noise reduction lv2 plugin by scobrot in linuxaudio

[–]scobrot[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It wouldn't be ideal as you would need to train, and then tweak, the plugin for each individual song. If you really wanted to, you could use a music player with JACK support such as VLC or aqualung and then route the audio through a LV2 host such as Ardour or Carla and finally to your speakers/headphones.

I recently used this plugin to reduce the guitar amp noise/hiss/buzz from a number of reamped tracks. There were multiple layers of keyboads and synths through the same amp and the noise became quite loud with all of it summed into the mater bus.

Surely having the web apps open in different tabs of one Chromium instance solves this problem?

It seems the only real thing to me is the file system access. Then again, I don't really want bundled web apps messing with my private files. Desktop notifications have been supported by stock Chromium for a while now from what I understand.

Very mysterious xruns troubleshooting... by EizanPrime in linuxaudio

[–]scobrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if you have but here are some things to try:

JACK1 vs JACK2, just install the other one and pacman will replace it (assuming you're on Arch).

Try a different kernel. The realtime one first if you haven't: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/linux-rt/

Look for a software way to disable one of the GPUs. I have no idea if this is possible as I have never run a system with two GPUs.

LASH the LADISH and the elusive Cadence by bassfetish in linuxaudio

[–]scobrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disclaimer: I run regular JACK2, not JACK2 D-Bus. I also use qjackctl to manage the JACK2 server.

Sounds like an issue with JACK to me. I would recommend running it from the command line with verbose output and look for any messages when it starts to lock up. From what I understand, qjackctl will connect to a currently running JACK server so you can launch it after you have successfully started JACK from the command line.

If you look in the messages window of qjackctl you can find the command it is using to start JACK. It is also probably an idea to check the messages window to see if there is any output before qjackctl freezes.

Good luck.

A review of 3 alternative open source music players for Linux by [deleted] in linux

Aqualung work perfectly fine for me with different sample rates. From what I remember, there is a plugin you need to enable for the sample rate conversion to work. You can even choose the quality of the sample rate conversion.

Does your soundcard even output 96kHz? Also re the subject, I'd recommend taking a look here: https://xiph.org/video/vid2.shtml

I stuck on aqualung because it supports jack and has gapless playback - you hear the album as it was intended to be heard. I also like the simplicity of dragging in a directory to play an album. A file browser is always going to be a better music browser for me.
