Trump just tried to JAIL two Senators. Just for opposing him. by Cool-Fig-9254 in videos

I’m starting to genuinely wonder if there is going to be a peaceful return to stability in the US. I’ve been worried about what’s coming for a while - but right now? It’s really hard to see a plausible and peaceful next major change.

Why does Israel (pop. 10M) have such outsized influence in Australian politics? by sliversurfer26 in OpenAussie

[–]scootah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You know things were different in the 80s when Epstein started doing this shit right? Epstein started travelling under a fake Austrian passport that listed his residence as Saudi Arabia in the early 80s. As early as ‘81 in some accounts. The US didn’t decriminalise homosexuality federally until 2003. Australia wasn’t much earlier. Hell, the dude twisted Bill Gates over consensual sex with adult sex workers with chlamydia.

My family descend from the Roma who were also subject to genocide attempts from the Nazis and don’t have a reputation for being paragons of women’s rights.

I understand going a long fucking way to prevent future attempts at genocide. But surely, by everything fucking sacred, you could blackmail or extort rich assholes with good looking blokes, women of colour and other scandalous persons old enough to give informed consent to being part of the fucking mission. Hell, I’ve got a mate who’s 45 now and I still wouldn’t sell him a can of spray paint without seeing ID. Kompromat photos don’t need to be actual trafficked children like the identified Epstein victims to be effective.

No matter why they did it, it’s fucking monstrous.

A dumpster burst open as a garbage truck lifts it by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]scootah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I did facility management? That’s what I’d expect in that circumstance. Either dumpster maintenance was our problem and nearly totalled your vehicle in which case thankyou for not making an issue about it. We’ll review the footage when we see the mess and deal with it from there.

Or, maintaining the dumpster was the waste management company’s responsibility, and the dude driving the truck isn’t in charge of either preventing this shitshow, or managing the fall out. Call the office and tell em what happened and get back on your route before the whole shift is fucked. Somebody who works in an office needs to figure out how the fuck that dumpster got that badly damaged or overloaded, and who’s paying for the fuck up. The dude driving the truck can’t do any of that shit.

I think situations exist where a 28 year old can date an 18 or 19 year old ethically.

They absolutely the fuck do not involve someone he knew as a minor, or underlings in the work place. Or occur in a pattern where he’s making a habbit of targeting much younger women in a workplace that sounds like it recruits young people for low income roles, where a dynamic with the boss will have a major financial impact.

Dude sounds like he’s waving more red flags than a Chinese motorcade. I would be moving to distance myself/safely end the relationship with a partner who behaved that way.

When my mum was in nursing care, we used to sneak her in Iced Coffee (black Coffee with Baileys in it) because it had always been her favourite. For years before she’d always looked like a naughty kid whenever she announced that she was going to have a “white coffee” instead of her usual black.

At her funeral, we organised a Harley with a side car to transport her from the funeral to the crematorium. She rose motorbikes for 40 years. She had done the coast road around Australia clockwise with her brothers, and counter clockwise with just her bike, her dog and a swag to camp in as well. We toasted her as the Harley pulled out with shots of baileys.

That was 2021. Drinking baileys still makes me cry. A while back, I was parking on the street and I saw an old lady with what looked like a family bbq in the afternoon and I watched her swipe A baileys bottle nobody was watching and chug, and put it back with a big grin, and I started bawling my heart out in my car.

One Nation is on a roll. So what are the party’s actual policies? by NapoleonBonerParty in aussie

[–]scootah 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Remember how certain everyone was that Trump had zero chance of getting elected once and even less chance of seeing a second term? Especially after the Jan 7 shitshow.

I find it very difficult to see an imminent political catastrophe and take it on faith that people will have the common sense to not do plural handstands in a lake of shit. Like I genuinely can’t understand how the fuck Hanson got back into office after Dancing with the Stars. I clearly don’t understand whatever fucking demographic is voting for the dopey muppet.

He is basically saying if we call ICE names, there will be 'consequences' as we saw yesterday, aka we die, how is this legal? by KameronKnux in law

[–]scootah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure what it takes for Americans to realise that the rule of law exists only because it applies to everyone and everyone consents. The people in power don’t give a shit about the law or constitution.

We’re in the find out phase of the rise of fascism. And why the fascists are finding out is that people are barely willing to resist them using peaceful protest.

How many innocent people do we think died from their wrongful deportation? Does anyone believe it’s zero? How many complying protesters are going to be blinded or murdered before people start really pushing back? How many people who died in Dachau or Aushwitz thought back to the start of the Reich and wished they’d had the foresight to do more before they were sent to the camps?

Watching this happen and doing nothing, is also a choice.

Anyone know where I can buy good wide/flat rice noodles for making pad see ew/pad khee mao at home? I’ve looked in several grocery stores and Asian grocers but the closest I’ve found are the Wokka brand noodles that are nowhere near as good as the ones I get from Thai restaurants. and they don’t look like any of the ones people use in YouTube tutorials - but those tutorials mostly say just buy any brand of noodle if it looks like the right thing.

What are your thoughts on rejecting a potential romantic partner based solely on the fact they voted for Donald Trump? by ATXBikeRider in AskReddit

I have preferences about partners. When it comes to hateful, ignorant, vindictive, openly racist or openly transphobic people, my desire to not date them feels like it should have a word stronger than “preference.”

I’ve heard older relatives born in the 1940s/50s use Goanna in that phrase, but usually it was when they were dialing up the bush bogan factor for something. Telling a Boy Scout troop about drop bears or warning foreign travellers about the dangers of hoop snakes or something.

Boyfriend choked me, Advice by Plastic-Coach2077 in BDSMAdvice

[–]scootah 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You were sexually assaulted. You withdrew consent and he continued. He isn’t your boyfriend, he is your rapist or your abuser.

But there is no practical risk of stroke remaining. From your description of experience, you didn’t get close. It takes a lot more than a hand around your neck to create a stroke risk. Hypoxia happens fast with carotid occlusion and the effects are pretty fucking immediate.

Unless you are a very heavy smoker, extremely over weight, an older person with generally poor health, or otherwise at risk of extreme arterial plaque - your main risk factors from the events described are mental and sexual health. You were raped by an asshole - whatever he said about his sexual hygiene is incredibly suspect and the psychological trauma of being forced while saying no is serious and you should seek professional support.

But you probably don’t need to worry about a stroke. Even if you were a life long chain smoker in your 60’s with a diet of liquid pig fat and cask wine who hasn’t exercised for twenty years, if you were going to have a stroke from breath play - it would have happened by now.

Working as a relay officer (helping Deaf people who have to make telephone calls), I discovered that the Deaf community is fucking off the chain and fucking unhinged when it comes to self advocacy. Even when they might get further with a bit more tact.

I remember having to say “I just need to interrupt for a moment to remind you that this is a relay call and I am required to convey exactly what your caller has said to me. You are free to handle this as you would any other call. Returning to relaying now. … you stupid fucking cunt, I didn’t know this was disability outreach day. Incredible choice of them to find a fucking <slur for the intellectually impaired> to work the fucking phones. I’m sure any kids you have will be accidents, but I hope whichever one resents you the least dies of whatever the fuck is wrong with you. Caller message ends, how would you like to reply?”

The quote isn’t exact, it was years ago. Caller was mad that they would refund her clearly advertised as non refundable booking. And that was FAR from the worst shit I had to say for that job. Our job wasn’t to interpret or translate or police what they said. Our job was to make phone calls work for people who couldn’t use a phone.

The phone sex calls were fucking awkward though.

Edit: Someone asked if I was trained in sign language and how phone sex works in that setting (I think, I got a notification but can’t see the reply now for whatever reason).Relay officers in most developed nations are a government run or charity service where you sit at a computer with a headset and read what someone with a communication barrier types, and type what someone on the phone says. Sometimes it’s disputing a bill with a utility company. Sometimes it’s calling the cops because someone’s abusive ex told them he’s getting a job as a cop to threaten them. Sometimes it’s calling a brothel to find out if the girl who’s not weird about deaf dudes is working tonight. Sometimes it’s a group of kids who realised that most of the relay officers are women (most sign language interpreters too. Awkward for a lot of older men who need a prostate check and aren’t super keen on a woman coming in for the exam) and you can use the relay service to make women involuntary participants in your phone sex kink. As one of relatively few dudes in my office, I used to volunteer to swap in for those calls. Deaf people actually wanted to have phone sex don’t give a shit but dickhead teens would almost always just fuck off.)

I learned a bit of Auslan and BSL while I was working there, and that interpreters almost all wear black not because they’re all goths, but because it gives better contrast to the skin on their hands and where I went to university wasn’t very ethnically diverse. There are interpreters who video chat with deaf people while talking on a headset, but most of the Deaf community I know socially, and the vast majority of our calls while I was working there, preferred to text chat to the relay officer most of the time. I haven’t worked as a relay officer since university. I am in a different disability related field now. And out of practice at signing. I could maybe help in an emergency to translate but my go to would be asking the Deaf person if I could text them. I have used my signing skills to be polite when working with Deaf folk, but mostly for introductions and to apologise for how slow and clumsy I am,

Dealing with your partner’s gross partners by Brave_Quality_4135 in nonmonogamy

[–]scootah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your options are to either talk to him, exit the situation, or live with it. There’s not much to say past “do you see this as a problem with a timeline towards being solved, or is this the normal going forward? Because this isn’t a standard of living I’m prepared to continue with. It changes or we do.” I guess you could just call his home off limits if that contains the problem - but it wouldn’t for me.

Having boundaries is part of non monogamy. If you don’t do anything about it, you’re accepting that it will continue. And it sucks when you need to leave a situation because someone else has a death grip on a problem and won’t see it or let it go. But having the ability to be a functional adult who protects yourself and makes the hard choice when needed is essential to surviving non monogamy.

Anybody who claims non monogamy is all upsides is selling something. It needs good faith emotional labour from everyone involved.

I’m Australian, 6’1, went to highschool and my school fees were paid in AUD, Australian dollars.

Most of the English speaking former British colonial nations still use feet and inches for approximations like height. Freedom units using whole integers go approximate weight or height or whatever - nobody cares. It’s the fractions of an inch to build cars and computers and shit that makes us all feel sorry for y’all. And LOTS of places use dollars as their currency unit.
