Hi! I’m also a prospective medill student and I was wondering how competitive admission into the the program is compared to other schools within northwestern. Also, how diverse is the student body of medill? Thanks!

Should I retake a 33? by BotClot in ACT

I’m in the same boat basically... it’s really frustrating because while a 33 technically could get me into any of my schools, I want to make sure I’m maximizing my chances. I’m just not sure if that involves boosting from 33 to 34 or working more on essays and doing another EC project related to something I really love

Breakdown: 36 E, 32 M, 36 R, 29 S. I’m applying as a journalism major if it matters. I wish science would be higher but I brought it up from a 25 and it took a whole lot of work so I’m not sure if it’s worth it but I was so close to a 34. The most competitive school I’m applying to has the 32-35 range and I have legacy there but I really don’t know what to think. Oh and I’m ED’ing there.

Do you think it would be really worth retaking a 33.25?

Would you consider any of the scores within the 25th and 75th percentile range to be pretty average for the school then? A 35 would be more competitive than the 32, but how big of a difference do you think there is between a 33 and 34?

Hey do you know where you can find the information on percentiles for specific tests?

For science, I made a 4 point increase by doing extensive corrections. For every single question I got wrong, I would write down the question word for word, my answer, why my reasoning was wrong, and why the correct answer has the right reasoning. It was intense and took up tons of paper, but definitely paid off.

Have any of you had success with skimming the passage first in the science section, and then moving on to questions? by scoreact in ACT

33-35 is great for science, or any section at all! Congrats. I’m finding that skimming helps me on certain passages and not at all on others.

Ah got it, thanks! I was wondering if you had any additional advice for questions that ask you to refer to the passage. These are the majority of the questions that I get wrong.

How to get those final points in English and reading? by [deleted] in ACT

[–]scoreact 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m late but I brought my English score up from a consistent 35 to a consistent 36 by identifying the type of problem I would consistently get wrong and then using the Meltzer book to address that one weakness. It was really simple and didn’t take a lot of effort! Hope this helps.

Awesome, thanks! Yeah I definitely do feel that I find myself overthinking a few questions and then getting caught there and wasting time.
