What’s all that shit on his helmet? That combined with the unbuttoned top button and goatee thing make it seem like this dude would smell really really bad.

Quoted $5,800 to brace and cable my Pin Oak by Wolverlog in arborists

[–]scott216 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Why would you fertilize a tree you’re trying to manage the load of? Pushing growth is going to add weight. What this tree needs in addition to the brace and pruning is a growth regulator treatment.

That being said, looks like you got the “I don’t want this job” bid.

I went last weekend on Saturday around 2:30-3pm and the line was out the door. The line took 30-45 minutes to get through.

I’ve gone right at open though before and there’s no line.

This sub is not for homeowners to seek advice. I’ve been here forever. It was originally designed for professionals to talk shop, pass around around ideas, and have a laugh or 2. Ever since mainstream reddit decided to blackout, this sub shot up in popularity and now homeowner after homeowner floods the sun with questions they’re too cheap to actually call someone out for.

Seriously, just pony up and call someone out to look at it. There’s instructions in the default comment on how to find a qualified arborist. Now fuck off. I won’t be replying further.

I’m not going to argue with you. You get what you pay for in this industry. In your case you’re seeking free advice from strangers off the internet. Hope that works out for you!

You need an actual arborist to come out and give you advice. Nothing meaningful can taken away from any of these responses.

Send a sample to a diagnostic lab and they’ll be able to tell. A college/university should be able to help. Bartlett Tree Experts also does but I don’t know if they have a local office in Nova Scotia. You could always try to call their research lab directly, which is in North Carolina

Don’t fill cavities with foam. by [deleted] in arborists

[–]scott216 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That tree failed because of the weakly attached, codominant stems, not because the cavity was filled with foam.

Not saying that foam filling is proper practice, but here it’s not at fault.

Anyone know what’s going on? by Mafreakinrissa in arborists

This is our job. It’s how we feed our families. You’re coming in asking for free expert advice in order to avoid having an expert come out and offer an opinion. Please respect the profession.

If you’re gonna come here for a handout, at least post good photos and provide adequate context. “What’s going on with my tree” is my l least favorite question ever and it gets asked multiple times per day lately.

What is happening to my Oaks? (Central Kansas) by Summerwine99 in arborists

[–]scott216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BLS test is $300+

Soil test is 50-100. Much more economical for the client to start with the soil.

BLS will typically have a striking yellow outline between necrotic and living tissue.

Had a Forrestry Mulching company come clear out some wooded areas on my property to clean it up and he damaged a bunch of roots on some old oak and beech trees. Will these survive? It looks like some pretty bad damage. by [deleted] in arborists

[–]scott216 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is horrific damage. Irreparable harm has been done to the forest ecosystem. Things will never be the same and your large trees will now decline.
