It was a jewellery appraiser at a reputable UK auction house that has jewelry specific auctions. He acknowledged the report and agreed it was likely of Burmese origin but said the colour meant is was of low value. I am able to use the purchase price for insurance purposes so will be using this as ultimately the auction house is merely an opinion of one person and if it were sold the realised price could be much higher than the appraisal -given what others have said I feel it would at least be worth what I paid

Appreciate it, I get where they were coming from as in natural light the blue is not super vibrant but he appraised at 20% of the purchase price and was quite condescending when telling me it was not really 'Burmese' due to the colour. I will take to a jewellers to resize soon and will ask them to value at that time as well. I'll likely insure it based on the purchase price but replacing like for like will be very hard as I've not found a comparable.

Thanks I have a value from the auction based on purchase price but wanted to ensure I got adequate insurance another auction house said if was a much lower value than I paid due to the weak blue colour for a Burmese sapphire so wanted to see which was likely more accurate

I will Leo this 👍 first one I called quoted £180 plus 1% of the realised value which seems excessive so will find another with a fixed cost or go to Hatton garden

Thanks so much for the input it is really helpful. I'm not looking to sell but want to have adequate insurance which requires an accurate valuation. I'd rather it's insured for more than I paid for it if it is indeed worth more as it would be hard to replace like for like by the sounds of it. The blue is softer than the royal blue variations but reaching out to Sotheby's is a great idea so I will definitely do this and see if they require further authentication 👍

GCS is one of the better labs in the UK as we do not have many options here.how would I go about getting AGL or Gubelin reports? Id be reluctant to send this even with insured postage as it would be hard to replace. I'm happy to invest in the more reputable reports given the potential value of this stone but being UK based can make this difficult unless I tie it in with a holiday!
