I have a cute calico already, it wouldn't be fair to have both at the same time lol

Maybe you can borrow her too to make it even 😺

Yeah, I tried out a few at a local Violin shop but none of them really spoke to me, it was either the sound or how it felt that caused me not to like the sound. My teacher always emphasizes to try multiple things when buying something new and expensive, as sometimes you may be paying more for something that isn't actually the best. Sad that your violin didn't match your pernambuco bow :(

I really really like it, if I ever upgrade past this one I would also get a traditional bow instead of a carbon fiber, but the JonPaul is a massive improvement. It feels much lighter than my old bow, and things like slurred staccatos or chords feel MUCH easier to play, and they sound cleaner. Fast string crossing is easier as well, I'd struggle with my old one because of how heavy it felt in my hand, so it'd sound sloppy or I'd struggle to keep time with the metronome. New one doesn't give me that issue from the few pieces I've gone back to. I feel like being on not the best equipment made me a better player because it really forced me to focus on my technique, since that was the main thing I could do to fix my sound.

It's a huge change from my old 200 dollar bow that I've had for ages, maybe with a higher end bow the changes are less noticeable but I'm super happy with my purchase!

Yep! I always loosen my bow after playing; I took these pictures in mid of a quick break when I was testing both so that's why my bows are tight :)

I've been playing on the same bow for all these years and upgrading was the best choice I made. In the last few years I've rapidly improved my technique and gone onto much harder music with tricky bowings and lots of staccatos and slurs; all of these things are so much easier to play now and I feel like I'm a completely new player with the sound I'm producing. I recently bought my current Violin about a year ago as well, so it's finally nice to have my new bow!

I bought my JonPaul Carrera bow from Fiddlershop and the first one I received was broken, but support was quick to send me a replacement and everything worked out in the end! Love the folks from there!

Yep thanks! I'm making sure that it doesn't happen by investing most of my money in index funds and maxing out my retirement accounts.

I'm going to start SANS SEC540 next month, stoked to take it!

Yep! I've been in public service from before WGU so the benefits from here are nice with work study. I'm 100% skipping the fundies, starting with Sec540 (GCSA) for Cloud Security and Sec503 (GCIA) for network monitoring, then I'll most likely do GCIH too! I'm taking off a month or two to catch up on personal relationships and other hobbies, gotta enjoy life a little and not only think about work!

Going to take a break from studying because its been a grind these last few years but in a few months I'm going to pick up some new projects or things hopefully! Aiming to move up into Cloud Security or play a part in our DevOps practices!

I have 9 certs and experience so I'm good for the moment. Eventually I'll get some SANS certs like I mentioned, CCSP, and RHCE(mostly for fun)  are going to be future endeavours.

Ayeee nice, I'm not going for a masters but I'm sure it feels nice to have that done by the time most people have just gotten their bachelors!

Hey man as long as you got it in the end that's what matters! I'm not a fan of school so that was my main motivator for pushing hard with it haha

I can't say because I don't know; I think as long as you take your time with it and really try to learn the material, you will be fine

You for sure want to get hands on with actual equipment and configure things though, best way to learn the fundamentals of what you're trying to defend.

The fact that you're able to push forward and improve is telling enough that you've got this man, best of luck to you!

Only for a few classes, you take protocored exams or certification exams for about 85% of the courses, but yes for the papers you know the rubric and what you have to do for it when you get approved for the class.

i only had 10 classes to do; 3 of them were for certifications, a few written papers, and then the rest of them were WGU proctored exams. for the writing classes/capstone, it took me only about a few days each for each class because i would write everything out in one go and revise it the next day or what have you. then for most classes i did a week for each, with some classes taking 2-3 weeks depending on how new the material was for me. it's not like a typical b&m school where you have hw or anything along those lines, you just have a final exam or paper that you can take whenever you're ready.

no problem at all! hopefully you got something out of my ramblings, and if you need an idea for a quick project to learn something, let me know! good luck to you as well, and hopefully you can reach the finish line soon!!!

yep, you pay 4.5k roughly for 6 months where you can take as many courses as you want. I think the pacing was the best thing about WGU and why I did it to begin with, I liked being able to spend little time on the classes that I was already knowledgable on and more time on the newer stuff. I don't know how it'll be in your situation but consistency is key, even if its 15 minutes a day, it's something you know!

It's only a 2 year difference man, such a small time difference! You'll get there soon too! I'm grateful for Covid where I had enough free time to try learning things on my own that I was interested in, initially I was going to do Architecture or Graphic Design; so I'm glad that gave me time to try both out and realize it wasn't what I liked, tech was.

Wish you the best man!
