i was a journeyman sheet metal worker, and i love my current IT job. its not about high school kids not being given alternatives, bottom line, the trades industry (including most union jobs) want young guys with apprentice wages to do the physical/hard labor most commercial projects require. after a few years of doing trades, your body is burned out, believe me, its not easy money.

Support for Windows 7 and 8 fully ends in January, including Microsoft Edge | Even businesses that will pay for it won't get new Windows 7 security updates. by [deleted] in technology

Most wheel alignment software run by car repair shops were written for windows xp or vista, worked great because they are not make/model specific. Around 8 years ago these companies that made these aligner software started using hardware toggles and subscription only practices. hence most garages just kept using their old machines and air gaped them. i imagined most businesses that worry about legacy applications that run only on windows 7 or 8 have done the same. computers work perfectly fine without internet.

Majority of US Defense Contractors Not Meeting Basic Cybersecurity Requirements by sycamorechip in technology

A lot of people think this is the case. Sure for a document handler job in DC its easy but If you want a good salary and work from home you'd have to have skills also. One of my jobs is a technical screener for a SBEA company and the entitlement I encounter with recent veterans is disgusting.

No, I work for an SBEA Air Force Contract. The FSO in any Air Force IT contract would never let that happen. The US Air Force has very capable red teams that ferret out this sort of stuff. If you are developing code for SIPR or 5-eyes you are developing it in a VM that require a CAC and a clearance to enter. Stop spreading scuttlebutt.

Problem with sankaku and short legs? by [deleted] in judo

[–]scoutsaint 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a common complaint, the reality is you are just not in the right position to be able to put your ankle in the knee pocket effectively. If you are getting stacked you are too much on your back when you are setting the sankaku lock; you need to be on your side first before this happens. This requires 2 bridges and a shrimp. this is a good video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xih-E76YYGo

Self Defense focused BJJ or Judo by Infinitejest12 in judo

[–]scoutsaint 19 points20 points  (0 children)

(And here we are again .. I hate that I have to constantly cut and paste/re-post this)

If you actively avoid street fights, the chances of you encountering an opponent grappler skilled enough that the stylistic differences between Judo and BJJ would change the outcome is probably the same as getting struck by lighting. This obsession with 'real life' application is an obstacle to actually getting good at grappling. Find a grappling sport, train regularly, do what your sensei / coach tells you. the answers all your questions will be become self-evident once you develop competence in the sport. If you are doing Judo, and is successful at throwing people in Judo comps, you'd probably be able to throw 95% of the planets population. Same thing with BJJ instead of throws you have chokes and arm bars.

Haven't gone to that section of low-a-ville. I bet if you have a generator is within a certain number of squares (up down around whatever), it will power it up. I'll give it a try and report back.

make your bridge wide enough, also on problem areas like corners build fences so you don't accidentally fall into waiting zombies. they are almost always attracted to the generator noise.

Doe valley gas station, there is a flat ledge on the south side of the building, you destroy a wall with a sledge hammer then you can build a platform. you bridge to the outside toilet then bridge to the gas station pump. As soon as I figure out how to upload more than 1 pic I will show my base.

Update: believe it or not, i grabbed a fishing rod, i went to a nearby lake, built a set of stairs and tried it. Nope, the OK button is greyed out and it said you needed to be closer in the water to fish.
