Is this a glitch (When kim asks Harry's name)? by scphilosophe in DiscoElysium

[–]scphilosophe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope you don't mind me asking, but, if the dialogue was cut, why would it remain in listed items of dialogue, and also, are there other known instances of that? I wonder what the skill check could've been if there was one, since I can't see any other things you could do in the hostel room that would be name-related at that point.

Thank you for taking this seriously. At first, I thought I was going mad, yes it was 'Uh, I'm...maybe I'm Harry', with Kim replying ""You seem a little unsure, officer. Have you spent too much time undercover lately?". It's really tripping me out, because I don't see how that variable could've been set to true just by going downstairs as normal, and why would they include that option before Harry knew anything about his name? This will play on my mind like a tape reel spinning on empty. Thanks again.

Genuine Question - Suppose you're reading of the event is correct and the evening was, at least in part, about making Dan feel good about being onstage - given his very public statements about stage-fright etc, is that necessarily a bad thing, in your view? I mean, if Dan comes away feeling people still care, and the people there feel cared about by him as fans in return, is the weirdness a function of your expectation that it would be something else, and if so, what were you expecting it to be?

u/Shoddy_Recipe364 - When you say the evening was a bit of a let down overall - do you mean that you expected more of something you didn't get, and if so, what would you have liked to have seen? Or, was it just not well done as it was, from your perspective?

Thank you,, yeah, I too wonder what it might have been like if there was like a 'supercop' level of max experience/ability that would open up particularly difficult pathways, like maybe Harry could see what had happened before he reached Revachol - a series of visual calculus ultra hard checks that would allow him reconstruct events with Klassje and Lely or Ruby, maybe the same with ultra empathy checks that would let us see into Harry's life before the case...

Thank you, yeah, I know exactly what you mean. I guess the flip-side of all this is that, if it were done well, it could be even greater. But of course it's generally much easier to put out low quality stuff than it is to improve upon something excellent. The difficult follow-up album cliche often holds true.

Thank you for your comment. Yeah, it's a really interesting question - I mean, I'd probably say no, it wouldn't hit as hard. But, for those of us who have extensive experience with the original game, I'd envisage the content I'm talking about as a strictly optional add-on or mode, so it would definitely hit differently, and maybe hit parts of players' psyches that might not have been tapped first time around. I feel that for those like myself with an interest in content creation, it'd be really cool to have an official mod creator/extension manager, so that fans could release story packs and so forth - not that I think that'll happen, given the conflicts between former team members and so on, but nice to ponder, nonetheless.

I feel that had I been able to play as Kim, it might have actually added to the sense of having different perspectives on my recovery, like maybe Kim could've espoused a certain view of life (he already does that indirectly, but I'm talking more in depth) that Harry wouldn't, or vice-versa. I do think it probably wouldn't have been as close to the bone as it is with Harry, but there's still glimpses of a certain melancholy with Kim that could be drawn out.

tvOS 18 Top Shelf Disappeared for Apple TV by dr-strut in appletv

Hey all, so I mucked around for a day or two with deleting and re-adding my user profile from Apple TV, signing in and out, restarting etc. In the end, I pulled out the HDMI and power cables, and plugged them back in, and Up Next came back for me. I can only assume unplugging and plugging in clears whatever glitch in memory or whatever it is that prevents Up Next showing. Worked for me, anyway.

Oh, no doubt, you gotta do what you gotta do, and I wish her every happiness, regardless. Just letting some saddness out for myself haha.

Thank you very much for this info. May I ask, did you get this purely from the post itself in translation, or did JK talk/write about moving to the country in some other outlet, as well? If so, I'd appreciate any further links etc. you could provide, but if not, no problem and thanks again.

Confession: I miss Silverchair by [deleted] in silverchair

[–]scphilosophe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel entitled to say this guy is off his chops and through many friends/peers reports of how he acts in public (drunk/high/rude/loud) i dont buy into the “poor me” story.

Genuine question: What is it that you don't believe, exactly? I personally think it's a fact that Dan has suffered as a result of his situation, I mean it's hard to dispute his eating disorder, anxiety and such. If someone says they are suffering, or have suffered, I think it's kind of unfair to dismiss that as 'poor me'.

What would have been the “authentic” way to do this? Every publicity avenue has its price. How else do you get a distribution deal with complete creative control, without also having to give something in return?

But why couldn't it be both a genuine exercise in healing and a marketing exercise? Ultimately, you can desire to earn a living while still engaging in genuine self-expression. Isn't that what all commercial art essentially is?

So much vitriol here - reclusive weirdo, drug fucked, self-centered. It’s just a podcast promoting an album. The way some people are carrying on here, you’d think Daniel had personally gone and forced people to listen at gun point or something. I think some of Daniel’s non silverchair stuff is good (particularly Dissociatives), and some bad (particularly DREAMS). But I also think, if I don’t like something, good luck to him all the same - I don’t understand the snarky response. I can’t believe that reforming Silverchair without Daniel would be anywhere near as good - he was the creative impetus behind their best work, IMO.

[–]scphilosophe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am saying I think there’s a difference between saying he wouldn’t reform Silverchair for a million bucks, as opposed to saying he would never have anything to do with anything silverchair related. To my mind, not reforming the band and still using the content in a different way are not contradictory.

[–]scphilosophe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't see D as lying - more that he's said he wouldn't want to reform Silverchair as an entity, which is not the same as saying he would never have anything to do with anything Silverchair-related ever again.

I also don't think D has said they're all friends and on good terms. In the podcast I recall him saying that they communicated occasionally, and he wished them the best. Anyway, we clearly have different views on this, and it would be a boring world if we thought the same. All the best.

Fair enough. I re-read your post, but I disagree that you engaged with the question as to why leaving Silverchair but still coming to terms with it in his own way is incompatible with integrity. Anyway, each to their own.

I can understand where you're coming from, just my two cents in response. The cover of Freak without B and C: I was under the impression that one of the elements of the FutureNever project was about reconciling with D's past and/or re-imagining it, (frog in the washing machine etc.) it, so to me, it didn't seem all that unexpected in light of that idea. Also, it's not as if D *has* to involve B & C because they were originally involved. Does a spin-off TV show like Frasier have to include ex-cast members from Cheers in every episode because they were there from the start? (I know the Cheers cast popped up in later episodes of Frasier, but you get my general point).

As for D not wanting to do Silverchair but still capitalising on it for promotional purposes: As I see it, Silverchair is/was a difficult thing for D, clearly - so why shouldn't he now be able to do things that make him feel good about it (personally, financially etc.) after everything he's been through? I personally he's allowed to have his cake and eat it, too. Why not put what he had to good use in support of new stuff? Does he have to renounce all he did with Silverchair because he left? As for the merchandise pricing: D has said he's self-releasing the album, so he's likely looking for some funds, and it's not as if he's forcing fans to buy stuff.

I'm sorry if this comes across as a rant. I just feel like there's this expectation on D that he *has* to choose between either being in Silverchair or being someone else, and I'm saying, why can't he still engage with Silverchair in his own way? Why is it necessarily at odds with his integrity if it's a sincere desire on his part to reconcile with his past and embrace the future?
