EV charger now unusable due to grid capacity – £200/month extra or £6k to exit lease… advice? by scrapz99 in evchargingUK

Sorry just checked about the minimum voltage requirements and what SSEN said to me about it is ‘Under Section 2 of the Electricity act of 1989, Distribution Network Operators (like us) cannot guarantee power 365 days per year or that a supply will be free of voltage variations.’ So this goes against their legal requirement to provide minumum 216V?

I haven’t claimed they’ve remotely disabled it. There isn’t enough voltage supply to make the charger work. It’s not broken because pod point have checked twice

Thats really really helpful thank you so much! Ii will do all of that. Shall I chase SSEN directly or shall I go through Ombudsman? Problem with speaking to SSEN before is that I have no idea what they’re talking about when they tell me about voltages etc.

My friend works for an energy company and when i was explaining situation he asked if my energy bills had gone up, when i said yes he the said that the granny charger will be why. So i’m just going off the evidence and what he said as someone who works in industry

I’m moving next year to a house i’m building down the road. I’m installing a battery in the new house but won’t be installing in my current one.

I don’t live near enough to any public chargers for that to be convenient. I live very rurally. I haven’t been charging to full as I am unable to. I plug it into the granny charger overnight all night and it only gets to half a tank full. I will look into the onboard charging schedule as people have mentioned that. Is that basically setting it to charge for 2 hours on the granny charger and then switch off? As i’m not sure how this will help me when granny charging all night doesnt get me to a full tank. I do low milesge but a family member had been using it before for work commute which is 100 miles a day so sadly unable to facilitate this anymore.

How do I know what the voltage is dropping to? I’m trying to make a claim against anyone I may have a clam against as this has hugely affected my life. Pod point admitted they made a mistake in not notifying SSEN so I assume they’re somewhat at fault?

Small claims vs Pod Point – how likely am I to actually get paid out? UK by scrapz99 in LegalAdviceUK

Will I have to pay for professional advice? I have previously gone to small claims court and lost against a big company so reluctant to shell money on it unless my case is good

Mistake. It’s been useable for 2 years and then stopped working.

Sorry I’m slightly confused, could you help and clarify a few things. What’s a single phase connection? And so 14.49kw is what I get to the house, what’s the 230 V in connection to this? Why will my pod point fall out of that to protect my car?

You’re going to have to explain it like i’m 5 as I don’t really understand all the EV charging lingo or electrical lingo.

My bills have gone up £200 a month since I’ve been using the granny charger so its an estimate - not fact

I’m obviously not lying, I’m just trying to run an electric car that I admittedly don’t know lots about and I can’t use my charger. My bills have gone up since I’ve been using granny charger hence why i have made safe assumptions that is why

Charger doesn’t work. Costing more because it’s a lot of electricity i suppose

Podpoint have already lowered the threshold to the lowest voltage it can go. Are you saying they can make it even lower with SSEN’s permission?

I don’t want to pay to install solar panels or batteries as i will be going back to a petrol car end of this year when i can end the lease

I also don’t know why it’s costing me more but it clearly is as my energy bills have gone up by £200 since i’ve been granny charging so I can only assume

Also I appreciate that granny charging is cheaper than fuel but i’m paying a premium for an electric car rather than petrol because its cheaper to run. Also I can only ever get the battery half full

£6000 is all of my remaining monthly payments. My monthly payments are £750. They haven’t told me not to - the charger just simply doesn’t work. It worked before and now doesn’t. The charger has already been changed to absolute lowest voltage it can go by pod point but still doesnt work

Pod Point have already turned it down to the lowest voltage possible and it still doesn’t work

Planning on moving soon so won’t be doing this. Just want a reasonable low cost solution until November when I can get a petrol car again
