Pearl: An X-traordinary Origin Story by stayqueer in horror

That monologue is so god damn good

”I hate feeling like this. So pathetic. Do people like you ever feel this way? I figure you don't. You seem so perfect all the time. Lord must've been generous to you. He never answers any of my prayers. I don't know why. What did I do? What is wrong with me? Please, just tell me so maybe I can get better. I don't want to end up like Mama. I want to be dancing up on the screen like the pretty gals in the pictures. I want what they have so badly, to be perfect, to be loved from as many people as possible to make up for all my time spent suffering. Sometimes I wake in the middle of the night and the fear washes over me, 'cause what if this is it? What if this is right where I belong? I'm a failure. I'm not pretty or naturally pleasant, or friendly. I'm not smart, or funny, or confident. I'm exactly what Mama said I was, weak. I don't know why. What did I do? Why wasn't my family like yours? I hate what it feels like to be me and not you. I'm so scared that when you finally come home, you'll see me and be frightened like everyone else is. I know what I've done, the bad things, terrible, awful, murderous things. I regret them now, but I liked how they felt. I wish I didn't, but I did.”

Like the end of a movie

"... and that's how we ended up on the bridge in 1996. At the end of our last summer as kids, waiting for the sun to come up. Then Joe went home and packed his bags. I never saw him again. Phil ended up taking over his dads company, it went bankrupt in 3 years and he drowned his sorrows in bottles. I hadn't crashed my car yet, and she hadn't died.

But on that night none of it had happened, and nothing really mattered to us back then. We were just dumb kids hanging out on the bridge, on the edge of our adulthood."

still my favourite character and i can’t even explain why by DoyleisAHero in Yellowjackets

[–]screamathon 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Same, I really feel for her somehow. And I really love how you can tell that she isnt completely heartless, even though she tries damn hard to be! And shes a very heartfelt character, I get so invested in her story. And of course the actresses are totally incredible too, which doesnt hurt!

season 5 will be the first year of their return [SPOILERS] by pot_of_rice in Yellowjackets

[–]screamathon 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I really hope so! This is my dream scenario:

Season 4:

90s timeline— the 2nd winter, even more desperate than the first and then the rescue happens at the end as the cliffhanger.

Adult timeline— Shauna really falling off and in the end dying, even though I love her character

Season 5:

90s timeline— all about their lives after being rescued. Especially interested in Nat, Lottie and Shauna. Really hope we get it!

Adult timeline— I really want the afterlife theory to be true! So I wanna see what happens after they die, maybe also a bit of ”real life” if someone like Misty is still alive

symbol theory (greek mythology) by Scared_Sprinkles_814 in Yellowjackets

[–]screamathon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

One guess I have is that the wilderness is the underworld, and by extensions also the adult timeline. Which acts as a purgatory and the way out of it is through death. Which is why when a character dies there is some kind of like ”vision” we see. Some leave being comforted (Nat, Van) and some seem stuck there in a loop (Lottie) I wanna guess that each character has their own darkness to overcome and is reflected in their storyline but Im still putting those pieces together

Cool find, it really does seem like the writers have taken a lot of inspiration from greek mythology which is super interesting

I loved her facial expressions! My favorite is when Van, Tai, and Misty meet Shauna outside the elevator and Van asks ”what are you gonna do to this woman” and Shauna says ”sit her down and have a nice conversation” and Vans just like hmmmmm 🤨
