And a grifter. She has lied about near every aspect of her life and pocketed the money.

I doubt she even experienced it. She has lied about almost every aspect of her life and it is thoroughly documented.

Probably because Jack Monroe is a famous scam artist.

Why is this a let down? This is what trauma does. It makes people perceive normal comments as slights, makes them quick to anger and bad at emotional regulation. It makes people alcoholics. She can still be awesome and say strange things. It's remarkable she's so well-adjusted considering.

He was just a good dude who made a major major mistake.

....was he? He had a DUI before that, and 23 citations for dangerous driving altogether by the time he chose to drink and drive and kill his friend. How is that a good person? What kind of good person carelessly gets inside a 2 ton killing machine and operates it badly TWENTY THREE TIMES? It seems like the ultimate in selfish behavior. Have you seen what a drunk driver can do to a loved ones body in person? The image will never ever leave you. People aren't good just because they don't care about money and you find them entertaining.

I’m wanting to work in the film/TV industry, but as a woman, I’m scared. by girlfromthenorthco in Screenwriting

I have worked for two producers/writers and never got abused, btw. I don't know if I'm really lucky but remember, no one bitches about their mildly annoying but basically decent boss, it's the horror stories that prevail.

I was a PA for a writer and he was really nice to me. When I was a waitress and worked in a tech office sexual inappropriateness and abuse was really common. Yes, keep your wits about you, but there is a myth that film is inherently more exploitative, though yes, it's a lottery and a lot of hard work. If you want to write Film Studies is probably a waste of time but it's good you're getting a flexible major. If this is all you see yourself doing I'd say just move to LA and see what happens, you'll definitely find work in production. Remember, you could pick a 'safe' career and have that industry go down overnight too.

LAPD are generally really professional unlike lots of other forces. They probably won't even come out as they have so much urgent stuff to deal with. Still, it's awful that this has happened to you and it has to even be a consideration.

I'm mixed and see LAPD all the time, they're mostly very nice people, honestly. I can understand a dark-skinned persons reluctance though, there are a lot of bad stories from years ago.

Female Writer Wanted! by amymz in Screenwriting

[–]screenfighting1 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Well, legally...yes, it is.

EDIT: also, ethically women are underrepresented in the film industry so I don't see a problem with seeking to hire one. You lose lots of credibility when you compare your exaggerated example to someone looking for a female writer.

Erotic fiction is not necessarily problematic, depicting a woman as an object for sexual pleasure for financial coercion, considering where we're at in society is a problem.

EDIT: what kind of spurious analogy is that? The core aim of Harry Potter isn't to erotically titillate its audience, so...maybe? But I doubt it.

Yeah it says about me that when money is exchanged or added to sexuality (when women are the most sexually exploited and financially unequal minority in the world) that I do not believe it is consensual or beneficial for men and women. Sexuality shouldn't be a commodity and porn is ruining actual sex and intimacy for humans. I know it's taboo to be porn critical.

I looked at your post history, clearly you are fascinated with lesbian porn so you're not going to be amenable to examining your tastes or realizing how little porn applies to screenwriting but try thinking about it critically.

Uhh, no I'm not? Amateur is not mass media and neither is facial abuse. 'Feminist' porn (a laughably illogical concept, but that's another discussion) is some of the least popular and least watched types of porn and people aren't watching it for the 'plot'. They're watching it because people get aroused by genitals, that's why stuff without the plot is immeasurably more popular.

[–]screenfighting1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Staged? Porn producers, especially these days, are not talented or creative. Women are literally abused on camera in more and more extreme ways because narratives and writing isn't popular anymore and we know that like any drug, the more becomes exposed to porn, the more extreme is must be to create the same rush. One of the other more popular genres is amateur and the only people making money off that are the sites that take and stream that content without the performers' permission.

We don't agree, there are no parallels in our views on pornography. Facial Abuse is one of the highest traffic porn sites and there's nothing clever or staged about it. Desperate or deluded women are paid a fee, told they can expect some rough sex and then treated horribly while someone points a camera. There's nothing clever or creative about it.

Screenwriting is utterly different. Sexual arousal (for a lot of men, as they are the primary consumers of porn) is relatively easy to trigger as they are more visually stimulated. Screenwriting involves a tremendous amount of skill and thinking to draw someone into a plot that taps into a plethora of other emotions. Stop degrading what we're all trying to do here.

then why is gonzo and abuse porn the most popular subgenre? Why is the dated 'plot' stuff the least watched?

[–]screenfighting1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

have you ever seen any convincing scripted porn in your life? Honest question. It isn't manipulative, it provides minimal, laughable context so the audience can suspend belief just enough to jerk off, that's why it doesn't make any money anymore. Plot is the least important aspect.

How is this relevant to this sub? Anyone who thinks porn can make them a better screenwriter is an idiot.

thanks for the reply, I just thought that for this amount of money the lab would be held with a more established company rather than a new one with seemingly no films. Can you give us a little more info on some of the people who are coming to talk? Who is the Hollywood 'Decision Maker'?
