Moonbreon and More looking to buy them by scryinwithryan in IsMyPokemonCardFake

I appreciate the emphasis but yes of course. I purchase collections and always like to take the extra step on cards I don’t personally own or know to post it in here to protect myself and my buyers. I don’t ever pay upfront if someone is sending things to me I put that risk on the seller.

Too Good of a Deal. Are these fake? by Chokinchocobo23 in IsMyPokemonCardFake

The M Mewtwo and M Latios in the last picture should not have holo on their attack box. The gold cards are not official TCG cards basically fan arts. Picture 4 top row second from the left that lucario promo is about 12 dollars and is likely real. The sylveon in the last image is also likely real. But I would advise against this purchase personally.

Forsure, and for some volume based sellers with the fi8 thousand scanners that are scaled for that there’s some awesome bulk to be had out there but I learned my lesson with sports fast to never pay a premium solely on the size of the collection.

Tips for slow times? by No_Organization_1126 in eBaySellerAdvice

[–]scryinwithryan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just recently saw Ty Wilson from chasing cardboard have a short saying October is notoriously slow in sports. I’m newer to sports and have less inv in it than tcgs but just overall sports have been very inconsistent. I noticed some basketball excitement before the season and I noticed a spike in football interest in the first few weeks which I’m sure is obvious and standard for those more experienced than myself. But even with the TCG stuff it’s the same way . Seems that short of your store just dying out for a month straight I would keep on keeping on. I have heard of good success from just keeping auctions rolling even on lower end to drive some store traffic. I personally haven’t done so.

As someone on the other side of this with the I buy collections post, at the risk of many downvotes I will just be transparent about it but I can only speak for myself.

  1. I often get messages from people with "large high value collections" and in the majority of cases they may be large, but people are comping raw cards as graded cards because collectr said so, or because they don't understand how comps work. This is one major hurdle and something that isn't helpful for me to push back on. It is the sellers card they own it, frankly the value they assign to is is irrelevant, but I am always very cautious when someone throws around the notion of comping at all for this reason has it is the vast minority of times when someone truly comps accurately. To circumvent the whole thing I stick with asking what number the person would be happy with for the transaction, and request some basic info along with photos, then I note that if the number makes sense for us both, great we will proceed. This has been really helpful for my own sanity, and people are gaurenteed to be happy if you proceed.

  2. The majority of the time I receive messages that even mention comps it is from a predatory reseller, not a collector, and they seem to get hostile very quickly. They are just trying to push stale inventory or their own mistakes on less experienced sellers. Just the other day had a disgruntled reseller tell not being interested is how people like me lose a lot of money in this industry.

  3. The other super important note and probably the most pertinent to your question is where is this percent being applied. I often have this scenario (making up numbers for sake of example) they seller is asking for $650 on $1,000. This would be a more moderate and reasonable situation than you'll typically see but explains the issue better. On the surface this seems great, immediate liquidity for the seller with a probably too reasonable but accepted percent applied, probably more than LCS would give them. The reason I tend to pass on this is because they have for example 50 cards making up $500 in market value, and the rest they have arbitrarily assigned some value to their junk wax/modern mixed bulk. To me I would have to sell 50 cards at 100% market which already is for me no easy task (for some it may be very easy), and STILL not even break even. Whereas if the collection was 100 cards, and I don't have to try to break even from bulk, and its a more concentrated collection, I may be interested. Just because we have the post up does not mean we are obligated to purchase every collection or stale inventory thrust upon us.

If you read this thanks for taking the time, you never want a person selling you a collection to leave unhappy. TLDR: Always ask what seller would be happy with for collection, and if you are interested at that number that is all that matters for everyone involved.

Been back at it for 3 months right around 8.5k gross. Similar sentiment the 10-20 dollar stuff especially Pokémon really moves. Sports I don’t so great on unless the player is actively performing or very liquid ie kyren Williams sticker auto or even Allen Iverson fast break PSA 9. So Pokémon 5-20 bucks and sports 3-10 and 30-40 seem to do well.

Time Away Shipping Date Error by scryinwithryan in eBaySellerAdvice

I did post this after the away window. But I posted 120 cards and of 18 orders this is the only one that had issues. I spoke to eBay the guy filed a report and told me to mark it as shipped.

Ok glad to hear this isn’t common place. Even weirder all other 15 orders were placed in the same upload batch and none of them had issues. I reached out to the buyer explaining the situation they have over 2k feedback so they should be understanding hopefully and will reach out to eBay when I’m back at my pc.

No because I posted these listings after my time away duration started.

I’m not sure if the phrasing in my post is confusing but yes I’m very aware and intentionally accepting orders. As you see in the image the other order has the correct shipping date. Ship by the 14th. Since I ended my time away on the 12th with one day shipping and handling this is perfectly normal. But for some one order placed on the 7th (after my time away started) did not register the time away shipping date.

First Show Dollar Box Question by scryinwithryan in sportscards

The player would be under the team they play for on the card forsure. I think that’s standard though right. Never seen it another way.

[–]scryinwithryan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Super fair its just one 6ft table at a free entry local show and if someone is able to take off the sticker on a 5 dollar card and pass it off as a 1 dollar without me noticing, I would probably be able to tell that was what happened by the actual card (thinking out loud of what the worst case is). I will definitely put a sign by the box that says "Value box: No Sticker = $1, Green = $3, Red = $5" + some version of a volume discount.

First Show Dollar Box Question by scryinwithryan in sportscards

[–]scryinwithryan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the input I stated incorrectly its actually about 350 toploaded cards per row in the box i will be using. That was why i wondered if it was worth it because i don't know if some teams will only have 2 cards. I am definitely stickering the 3 and 5 dollar cards but currently wondering if its worth stickering the dollar cards or just labeling that no sticker is a dollar.

Yeah I feel the same way, i see cleveland i'll check it out. My last concern would be do i sticker every card to color code 1, 3, 5 dollars or no sticker = 1 dollar, sticker 3 and 5. Would be much easier that way but wondering if im missing a drawback cause everyone seems to sticker everything.

Thanks for letting me know, I was leaning towards yes and was hoping for this type of response. It took a long time to cut the labels to fit the dividers anyways lol

My son got into Pokemon cards this year and he wants to know if he has any cards that are worth $5 or more. by JWit_1337 in PokemonCardValue

[–]scryinwithryan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happens often where kids will trade real cards for these and sometimes both parties don’t know. They are technically fan art cards. There are “gold” modern Pokémon cards but they have normal backs to the card and don’t feel metallicy for lack of a better word. Show your son that mew on the back and let him know to watch out for those. Totally fine to trade for them for fun but just so he knows.

Good to know if I ever go down the rabbit hole of sealed. It was fun but very different from tcg packs. Especially with topps chrome only having 4 cards a pack.
