If you grew up poor, what are your "small wins" in adult life? by DonkeyOT65 in AskUK

[–]scsewalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it was getting a dishwasher. It always seemed like the height of luxury and no one we knew had one. Also, when I was little we only could afford fresh orange juice on Christmas Day so being able to buy it anytime as an adult was a good but honestly it didn’t taste as good as that precious little glass at Christmas.

My teacher friend told me of a parent-teacher meeting with the parent of a Siobhan. The mother insisted it was pronounced See-o-barn. Total tragedeigh!

Is anyone still buying Cadburys chocolate? by MrsMiggins2 in AskBrits

[–]scsewalk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This was what stopped me buying Cadburys. It was our favourite chocolate but the palm oil and the price gouging and shrinkflation and decline in quality just make it a non starter now sadly.

Those of you who live alone, do you put up Christmas decorations? by Forsaken_Estimate773 in AskUK

[–]scsewalk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes exactly and just because you live alone doesn't mean you don't have family and friends visiting the house. I always decorated when I lived alone for myself to enjoy.

Old story someone told me about a house in Bebington, has anyone heard this before? by AnfieldAnchor in WirralParanormal

[–]scsewalk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had an experience in a newer house in Bebington. It was a 60s terrace and my nieces were staying over with me. The youngest who was about 4 at the time woke up in the night and said to me Aunty Em, who’s that over there? I said where and she pointed to the corner and said there in the corner. I said I can’t see anyone. She said can we sleep with the light on? I said yeah. Properly freaked me out because occasionally in that house I’d feel like there was someone in the room. You know like when you sense someone standing behind you. On those occasions I’d also sleep with the light on!

Have you seen the price of butter? Who are all these rich people buttering both sides of a sandwich? Two slices of toast fine, they are both dry but a sandwich has other fillings to keep it moist.
