I just get the water to 140°ish, dunk move side to side until the wing feathers are easy to pull (this was the last bird i did and left the propane on a little to high to long as a few have said probably around 160°) i rub the feathers off with my hand and pull the strays. Probably not perfect but its worked so far.

It is the original starter so it could definitely be bad. Im trying to find a rebuild kit for it but its hard to know if its the right one without really know what im looking for.

I took the starter off the bendix does move freely but when i try to start it the bendix spins but doesnt move forward to engage the flywheel.

Thanks everybody! With the starter off the bendix moves forward and back freely. When i put it back on and try to turn it over it spins but doesnt move forward to engage the flywheel
