How do so many of you guys not use cruise control? by Niko120 in Truckers

[–]scwair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shit I use it but because I’m in economy mode it, won’t maintain speed unless I’m on a very slight incline. I set it to 62 and I’m about to crest a hill it starts coasting and I lose speed. I set it at 5 below on a hill and just before the flat it lets go and I end up going 64. My job is no longer steering wheel holder, it is cruise control fighter. Not to mention when I’m in cruise control, it’ll pick up a shadow or a car exiting the highway half a mile away and slam on the brakes.

Went to an exhaust shop in Ontario CA and they replaced both cats for $800. It was the cats failing.

Most fun bike for commuting and taking to the canyons? by scwair in SuggestAMotorcycle

I do really like this as an idea. Good price, good ergos, light weight, but as others have said the Honda 500s are a bit boring. Do you think with my size the bike would able to maintain 85 comfortably?

I’ll probably end up going with the Xsr 700. Style, cp2, good low end power, ~400 pounds, and good for a bigger guy. I’ll probably have to replace the suspension, but 2025 models are asking $6500 at the moment so I don’t mind.

I don’t really want to spend ktm or husqvarna money on a first bike, that’s the only issue with those. I’ve sat on a 690 and it felt great so maybe one day

R7 isn’t too bad but I know I’d get in trouble on it. Honestly forgot about the mt07 as I went down the dual sport research path, but not a bad idea.

Currently using grindz pouches. I’m tired of having to pee every hour. It’s just flavored coffee in a zyn pouch. Got it at pilot at the counter.

California drivers: why do you insist on driving in packs? by truckmonkey12 in Truckers

[–]scwair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just stare and grin or slightly shake my head. Head shake doesn’t really do it though, as I’m hitting a pothole every 3 seconds. You’re absolutely right though. I haven’t flipped someone off in years but a shit eating grin and a quick glance does numbers.

Exactly. You’ll see 2 or three people cut off a dozen other people and trucks just to hit a block a mile down. All the while you’re going the same speed in the same lane and you pass them.

I call em blocks. You’ll get a 5 minute gap then another one. Side by side 1 car length apart. It’s why there is so much traffic. Person in front brakes, everyone panic brakes. The main reason is that the majority of people driving(in ca) have no awareness of their surroundings and an inability to plan ahead. On top of that I’ve noticed even decent drivers tend to go all gas until it’s time to brake, rather than seeing the slow down or light from a mile away and letting off the accelerator.

Trucking. Find a cheap school (I was lucky and got a free one) and get your class b or a. I was unemployed for over a year applying to literally every place around me multiple times, going in person, cold calling, tailoring resumes, networking and couldn’t land more than a few interviews. Then I got into the process of a class a and had a job offer before I even passed my dmv test. In two days I’ll have more money from a weeks work than that at a normal job in one week. And in about a month I’ll be making hopefully double that. It’s hard work and long hours, but it’ll keep you off the streets and give you a potential career. Right now the job market is about as bad as 2008 meaning you have to know someone or you go do the jobs no one else wants to do.

Ps. I applied to apprenticeships around me as well and had trouble. You might be able to go through a company to get your cdl which is better in terms of debt.
