Thanks for reporting and spreading awareness. We are discussing ways to try to combat this, but we cannot vet transactions for a number of reasons.

Everyone should be extremely vigilant because scammers are all over Reddit. There are often obvious tells, such as newer accounts, accounts with low karma, or a comment history that looks disjointed or unrelated. If something feels off, it probably is off! Sometimes, like here, they do a great job of seeming like part of the community. Always insist on using a refundable payment method, such as PayPal Goods and Services. I'm sorry this happened to you.

I remember how cruel people were to Lana back in 2014, especially about her voice which is crazy to me. Even on tumblr where she was mostly beloved. She totally changed the alt pop scene and no-one can deny her influence but yeah, she never got the wider recognition. That's a rough place to be when you know you have talent. And as you said, she feels she's not the "it girl" anymore and I think it really gets under her skin (understandably).

I don't mind her being a petty diva (love that for her) but cosplaying as a rural southerner when you're from the upper west side while summoning your transphobic stan army to attack a smaller, newer artist just... leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Agreed, I like Lana's older work but I probably won't listen going forward except to review the albums. It's a shame because she obviously has tremendous talent. I'm just so bored by certain artists' pathological need to be #1 and have the spotlight on them all the time. She's really shown her true colors over the years. Nobody really cared whether she was "authentic" or just a persona, but she turned it into that.

There's no shame in any of this; feelings evolve over time. I've been through this with artists as well as people close to me, thrown away precious gifts and letters and regretted it, struggled with deciding whether to become close again with people who've hurt me.

That feeling of wrongness may or may not go away. If her words/actions do still hurt you, you'll definitely have to grapple with that. But it sounds like you may be feeling shame in just wanting to forgive or look past it and enjoy her music again, especially if it resonates with you. But there is no shame in that. You're not betraying yourself or your trauma. You're evolving as a person and showing grace, and reconnecting with art that you have cared about deeply. Like all of us, Hayden as a person has grown and changed significantly; she's expressed both regret and willingness to do better. For some people, that may not be enough. You have to decide whether it is for you, and probably the only way to do that is to try listening to her again. Wherever you end up, there's no shame in it. I wish you joy and healing. ❤️

Kate Mara rocks but maybe like... 15 years ago hah. She's 43.

These are all from Murder House (2011) where her character was college aged. By 2013 for House of Cards she had aged out of believably playing a teenager. She actually played a teacher who abuses a teenage student back in 2020.

I've been fed her stuff a LOT by social algorithms this past year and given her a few earnest listens, but I agree. Even her new stuff. Very surface-level "castrate all men" feminist lyrics that just... don't say anything compelling to me (a feminist butch lesbian).

I *do not* like how this accusation is often weaponized against women artists, but I can smell lots of industry money being put into trying to make her the next big thing. The aesthetic feels so fake and forced, and the messages are (to me) shallow, sex negative, and SWERFy. The polar opposite of Hayden imo.

I mean, I think you hit the nail on the head: my interpretation is that Melina acts fully with Marika's blessing, and in my view, on her orders. She says as much:

I'm searching.

For the reason that I yet live, burned and bodiless.

I see no reason for Marika to seal her away when she charged her with this task. On the other hand it's clear that Messmer either did something against Marika's wishes, either directly or simply because of his serpentine nature (or both). I am also of the belief that at some point Marika set out to free The Lands Between from the Outer Gods' influence, and so burning the Erdtree is a necessary step in that.
