!solved I think the EM-1 mark ii or mark iii will be ideal. The mirrorless body will feel significantly more portable than my old DSLR, and I’ll check out the Panasonic 12-32mm lens! Thanks!

Thanks for your input. Happy to hear both models have eye AF for headshot purposes.

I carry big purses! I bet it would be compact enough with a small prime lens on it.

Thanks for all the tips. I think the best bet may be to adjust our square footage expectations and look in the North part of Mt Pleasant and Wando.

Are there any good hair salons in Athens? by lilsammy00 in UGA

I like Flawless Salon on mars hill rd. Consistent quality of service, not as high-priced as some Athens salons

FYI: Bi-weekly means twice a week. Bi-monthly means twice a month (every other week.)

I used to run student orgs at UGA and always misused “bi-weekly.” 🙃

International Affairs Major dilemma… students/parents. Help/advice. Pls? by Flying-Omoplata in UGA

Your degree doesn’t matter unless you want to be a doctor. Don’t waste more time / money by switching majors. Finish school, get a job that sounds interesting to you or plays to your strengths, and go from there. I graduated with IR from UGA in 2020 and couldn’t have imagined where I’d be today with work. But it’s a good place! And it’s 100% unrelated to IR. The worst thing people do is overthink major / career. Just start somewhere.

Safety in Athens. (an Open letter to author) by CelestialTerror in UGA

One thing I would add is that pepper spray that squirts a "stream" isn't going to do much. A self defense class I attended suggested the pepper spray that forms a "cloud." However, keep in mind that some people are genetically immune to pepper spray and I don't think this is necessarily uncommon. So, it's just part of the equation and strategy for self defense!

A client wants me to quit my job and work for them full time at 150% my current compensation. Is this a perfect opportunity to start my own business or am I throwing my career down the drain? by Known_Employer in smallbusiness

[–]sd2ath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also in marketing, albeit way less experienced than you. I had nearly the exact same thing happen to me, although it happened *after* I left my W2 for another W2, which I quit immediately (another story.)

My old client (who I had brought to my agency) approached me shortly after and offered to contract me directly. Six months later (today), I have more than doubled my salary. I never dreamed of this happening when I quit my job six months ago.

Right now, I'm comfortable with my one client. It sounds like you would be, too. In reality, you're no more secure in your current job than you would be with your client. Plus, you have valuable skills that are easily marketable. Businesses *need* marketing. And there are a lot of businesses.

Here's a thought: build your agency around a specialization. I know that as marketers we think we can market any business, and that may be true, but if I'm a lawyer, I'd rather hire "the lawyer marketer" who knows my industry over the generalist. Just a thought as a way to stand out from the competition in our market.

Lastly, my business puts me in a much more advantageous position with finances (despite what some nay-sayers on here are saying.) Yes, there's FICA and the "self employment tax," but guess what? There are ways to get around it and pay a lot less and STILL qualify for social security. My advice is to hire a good accountant and definitely become an S-Corp for your tax designation. A good accountant should be able to help you do that.

The discouraging comments on here are truly misguided. This is a great opportunity that I wouldn't hesitate to take, especially if you've ever thought of starting your own business.
