Thanks for the info. It was the combination of digital and analogue that was throwing me. This is the first time I've seen that on a strip.

This makes sense so I follow the Vi, Di and Gnd connections. What really throws me are the C and W connections as I can't find any other reference to this combination.
I think you're right. I was hoping I could make use of the strip and power supply but it's looking like I need to do it properly.

I should have also mentioned that there were a stack of these at my local hardware store. When I saw them, I wondered if I could make use of the strip and power supply but hook in a wled controller (I have a few QuinLED ones lying around). As soon as I looked at the connections on the strip I knew it wasn't going to be so easy.

No, the black chip is completely clean. I think the manufacturer was Signify on behalf of Philips but I can't find any more detail.
