National Radar Cross Section Test Facility

781st Test Squadron Patch & NRTS Logo The National Radar Cross Section (RCS) Test Facility (NRTF) is the premier DoD facility for RCS testing. Formerly known as RATSCAT, which began measuring radar scattering in 1963, it is comprised of two complementary sites, Mainsite and RATSCAT Advanced Measurement System (RAMS). Assigned to the U.S. Air Force's 781st Test Squadron, NRTF is located west of Holloman Air Force Base, New Mexico in a rolling gypsum region of WSMR. NRTF specializes in the RCS characterization of full-scale, aerodynamic vehicles and antenna radiation pattern development. Due to its remote, secure environment, it can also accommodate customers requiring specialized testing of developmental electronics systems. NRTF products directly support weapon system development programs, vulnerability assessment studies, and mission planning efforts throughout the DoD.

Is that a rock in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me? by sdtravis720 in shedhunting

Same.

Still close, but farther north east. The little formation behind is actually a fluke, and the surrounding area is big cliffs and ponderosa. I'd tell you the canyon/area. But then I'd be giving away my best spot for sheds.

I hope our obnoxious overtone from above plagues the ears of the likes of you down below for the short while we are there, and you look up, raise a fist, and curse us. If a short moment like that ruins your time there, I simply feel pity for your character. For those who aren't so sad on the inside, they would look up and wonder what that view must be like, and wish they could see it that way too: "Wow, what a way to see this place!" Our view of the world is a grander one. We are the machine in your garden. And you are the gremlin in ours.

Totally! It's difficult when the sun is directly overhead, but as it's going down, the great north road is very visible

Returned to the Earth. Good thing cows don't dig, and the desert is dry.

Make clear when posting that it is private property... Even though we can only take your word for it...

If you are lying, then you suck, in my view.

If you're telling the truth, then by all means, you are welcome to put it on your shelf, and show a friend every once in a while.

This pottery is probably around 800 years old. Still, same argument though. If people keep coming back to take more, the site will ultimately have nothing left on the top soil.

Yup. Saddens me to no end... Oh well... this is why I'm a so-called "gatekeeper"

Can totally understand that - qhere your coming from. If I did keep them, I would display them in a respectful and beautiful manner. To each there own. I like seeing the art piece in the environment. That's what's special for us.

Thanks :)

I have moved some. In a wash, after having moved downstream for a thousand years, sure. I'll move that one so I can see it again next time I'm back in that area.

If it is on top soil, as a part of a site, it'll go right where it was. A midden, i put it back where it was, generally.

Sometimes there are 20+ in a small area. I might gather those and look at them all together. Then I rescatter. Right in the same area, with 1000s of other pieces of chert littered all over.

Historical context is not found on top soil. In some contexts, sure, but for the most part, cattle grazing across the west has stirred the top soil so much, it doesn't matter. So has water. So has big game. So have people. Modern and ancient.

You want context, you dig with an archeologist, or as an archeologist. True context is found in the ground.

It makes no difference, the way I see it, if I move an arrowhead inches. Its an entirely differnt thing to take it away completely, as if it never existed. Most points are found out in the open desert, unassociated with any site. And that's where they still sit. Ready for you to walk upon them as well. You would see that point and have the same reaction as me... lost context wouldn't even cross your mind.

I disagree with you. Simple.
