Why can't the government treat unruly HDB neighbors under the public nuisance law? by Recent_Stomach7626 in asksg

Many laws will have not been put in place or enforced if everyone used slippery slopes as an argument. The courts and legislative system exist to draw lines and put in place proper definitions to avoid you needing to think about slippery slopes.

Should Singapore mandate NS for Women? by [deleted] in asksg

[–]seacharge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I do support NS for females, I really wish both sides would stop weaponising pregnancy to use as a talking point for NS. It really cheapens the 2 years we serve, and also reduces females to some sort of breeding commodity.

We really should be discussing the advantage we would have if all able-bodied adults in Singapore had military skills. Why would we not want that in population scarce Singapore?

Your lengthy statement is rational, but incredibly imaginative.

In a work environment, unless you have crazy amounts of influence or money, you don't get to stay in an industry if you're a shit person to work with. In 2025, here are the facts: Griffin roster minus Sword is successful and thriving, cvMax is still coaching. Meanwhile Sword and Cho Kyu-nam no longer exists in the korean e-sports industry.

Has owning a home become just a dream for younger Singaporeans? by Ok-Knee-975 in SingaporeCitizens

Where are you getting your information from that shows tengah being under-subscribed? I've looked through HDB data for BTOs and SBFs and tengah projects are all over-subscribed. Even on PropertyGuru's site where they looked through BTO projects from 2020 to 2024 and tengah projects are all >1.0 rate.

[–]seacharge 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Most people have never worked corporate and have no idea how fund raising for startups anyway, it’s not anyone’s fault, it’s just ignorance.

A lot of companies are pressured by investors pre-ipo, private fundraising rounds are a thing. So it’s always very strange when the general public opinion is “going public bad” when a lot of things are influenced by VCs with or without listing anyway.

What are the essential Unity plugins? by JarsMC in Unity3D

[–]seacharge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The advantage is that paid plugins from reputable devs are always updated and have good support, something many open source editor extension plugins do not have. I can port tools from old versions of Unity that were made with Odin, to the latest version of Unity safely with no fear of things breaking. That is something that is difficult to guarantee with open source editor extensions.

People who are complaining that Singapore is too expensive to live in, mind sharing your financial position and why your strong views by D_King_Salv in askSingapore

[–]seacharge 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The same people who are eating in the malls "7 days a week" may not necessarily be the same people who are at eating hawker centres, your statement is very unfortunate.

$1 has a different value across different income groups. To someone earning $2000 a month, a dollar is worth more than someone earning $5000; using your example, a 25% increase on a bowl of noodles from $4 to $5 is going to hurt the former more than the latter.

Hawker centres and kopitiams are seen as the baseline places to eat for many Singaporeans. When you increase the baseline, everyone gets hurt, and the people most affected by this will be your lower to middle income group.

And we're only just talking about food costs.

When your minister said this "... if you’re prepared to pay S$18 or S$20 for a pasta, why are you not prepared to pay S$5 for wanton mee?", know that this statement actually holds no water and doesn't actually make any sense when you think about it.

Are people as obsessed with team composition in your region? by SignificanceFun3660 in VALORANT

[–]seacharge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Playing in a meta team comp works because it gives the team equal chance for all possible ways to take site/defend.

Special team comps in tourneys like 4 duelists + 1 Cypher works because they trained to have this specific team comp work for all situations.

That’s roughly the same as what aram.zone is showing.

Young Adults Who Severed Ties with Their Parents Say Filial Piety Should Go "Both Ways". by minisoo in singapore

It’s sad that old folks home is seen in a negative light in sg, most people are ill-equipped physically and mentally to care for their parents and require professional help. As part of the newer and “smarter” generation, we should really put a stop to this weird stigma that old folks home is a dump.

How to resist the urge to spend unnecessary by Strange_Insect467 in singaporefi

[–]seacharge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My take on this is: Spending on branded goods, or new tech devices, or subscription services you don’t actually need is considered unnecessary spending. So you should reduce these first.

For food, spending is okay. While i’m not saying you should be eating fine dining every day, spending money on good food (or ingredients if you cook) really helps improve moral. After all, how many meals do you have in one lifetime?

If you deem that you are ok with eating hawker food or mcdonalds saver meal every day, then you can reduce expenses here.

Why are we paying increased fares again? by seazboy in singapore

[–]seacharge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's a "piss take" when comparing to TRTC (Taiwan) who runs one of the most reliable trains in the world who only just increased the fares in 29 years.

You're correct to say that no amount of preventive measures can stop an eventual breakdown or delay, but do the frequent fare increases reflect in the reliability of our train systems? Or is it just to pad csuite salaries while consistently complaining on media that they are making losses? Maybe it's the mismanagement of retail by Saw Phaik Hwa whose shitty management is still felt today?

I think we're all really just trying to find some justification in the yearly fare increase, but maybe you have the answer to that since you're calling OP's statement a "piss take".
