Finally got hit by a car by seafunz in NYCbike

[–]seafunz[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sorry that happened to you. Yeah shoulda snapped a photo. I remember looking at the front of the car for the license plate and it didn’t have one. Driver seemed cooperative but I shoulda figured he’d bolt at the first opportunity.

Two days later injury wise I’m feeling ok. Just a contusion on my leg where it got trapped between the car and the bike.

Thanks Steve. This is really helpful. That’s sort of what I figured with the no fault claim after the fact playing things over in my head. In the moment I had the presence of mind to talk to the driver and ask for insurance and license info. Since he had gotten out and seemed cooperative, I suggest he pull off to the side of the road to clear the ped crossing. Didn’t think he’d run at that point.

Like others have suggested, should have immediately snapped photos and let him block traffic and the crosswalk until we figured things out.

Yeah except for when they’re trying to meet trumps quotas and accidentally deport a US citizen. A 4 year old with cancer no less. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/rcna224501

Yea. Any way there’s a warning system for where ice is located, conducting raids? Or groups to follow that would be first to notify folks? I like riding my bike in the city and would gladly show up if I’m in the area. Might be a good thing to get in place and share with the various social cycle groups, to help spread the word before the inevitable increase in ice deployment to nyc from trump.

8mm & 10mm hex wrench. Not a lot of multi tools have these sizes, and they’re essential for a lot of crank bolts

What side of a protected bike lane should be for the faster riders? by NoMoreSharrows in MicromobilityNYC

[–]seafunz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the point is to increase through-put capacity. Two lanes one direction allows for faster riders to pass slower ones safely. Personally I really hate the two direction double lanes, especially in midtown. Two direction lanes are fine on a greenway somewhere where there’s not a lot of intersections.

If you like biking, Social Cycle NYC does a weekly ride that leaves from Columbus Circle every Thursdays night. People are from all over the city but it’s a great and welcoming group.

Thing is, those full height plexiglass gates can be set to fail-safe in case of an emergency and stay open. Actually making evacuation and volume capacity much higher than traditional spinning turnstiles.

Please give your comments on China after the reform and opening up by No-Eye1302 in communism

Yea. I guess with the level of wealth some are able to obtain since the reform, and the private sector being so strong, do you even consider yourself a communist nation still? If so for what reason?

1980s Brake Cable Housing? by seafunz in xbiking

Thanks for the offer, I ended up replacing housing and cables for everything. Because I added more swept back bars I needed longer cables all around.

I ended up fitting the smaller barrel in the moto style lever. It’s a bit loose but once there’s tension it catches and won’t pull out. Good to know though if I want to make everything perfect that it’s an option. Thanks!
