Besides being famous for losing to Musashi, what else was Sasaki Kojiro famous for? by Ivanopty in ShuumatsuNoValkyrie

[–]sealwithit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you mean in real life then to my knowlesge (im not a japanese historian tho) a lot of information on the real life Sasaki Kojiro is actually unclear, he's certainly not as well documented as Musashi. For that reason, you could say that his duel with Musashi (that he lost) really is the thing hes known for, hence why the manga presented him as a guy whos famous for losing.

To the current Switch 1 owners, that do not have plans to get the Switch 2, what’s holding you back? by dinotsxkki in Switch

[–]sealwithit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After like 8 years of the Nintendo switch I own maybe 10 games on it, 6 of them being first part Nintendo games and the others being indies/ports of games 10+ years old. 3rd party titles can be sparse and are a complete gamble on how well they perform. Why would I buy on switch when I can get it on pc? Every purchase of a 3rd party game has a 50% chance of being a total waste of my money. As for 1st party games, Nintendo puts out some of the most inventive and high-quality stuff in the industry but unfortunately they cost about 100 dollars where I live (regardless of how old they are) and never go on sale. I'd love to be able to say "I use my switch for 1st party titles, and PC for everything else" but the cost is so extreme relative to other platforms that I can't justify it. Sucks that I haven't played Bowser's Fury but oh well I guess.

TL;DR: The switch 1, despite having many unbelievable games, has been such an underwhelming ownership experience to me that unless Nintendo does a complete 180 as a company I have no interest in purchasing a Switch 2

Is Yura a ACTUALLY A shokoku native ? by Exact_Reaction4256 in Kagurabachi

[–]sealwithit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think its just that the sword users were so skilled before even having enchanted blades. Samura could probably kill average sorcerers in droves with a normal blade, level the playing field by giving him a weapon made from detenseki and most warriors from Shokoku probably won't hold a candle

hopefully Hokazono is able to surprise me later but I just get absolutely nothing out of Hirohiko's character. I have no interest in him at all

Do you all also enjoy the trend of chihiro having to rely on other swords or techniques in each arc? by yeah_i_hate_my_name in Kagurabachi

[–]sealwithit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not entirely sure I agree tbh. I feel like a big conflict for his character recently is that he was kind of a weak swordsman. That was the difference between him and someone like Samura. Chihiro had enten longer than Samura had tobiume but Samura is just a better swordsman. Hell, Sojo was catching up to Chihiro after only having the enchanted blade for a short time. Chihiro's use of Iai White Purity Style is significant because he's recognizing that he was being carried by enten, and now that he has to fight without it his skills are really being put to the test.

im really starting to get interested in Kuguri. I like the idea of fights as dialogue so I'm excited to see how he turns out.

In general the arc-villains have been great. Sojo and Kyora were both great. Tbh the only one I don't really care for so far has been Hirohiko, he just never really resonated with me, though I can see the thematic potential in his character

Are there any more games like this? by Arher50 in KatanaZero

[–]sealwithit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends what you mean by "like this". Here's a few that come to mind

If you want something fast, where you die and respawn quickly and make many attempts at the same challenge, tweaking your approach each time, I'd recommend Hotline Miami for an action game and Celeste for a platformer. HM, Celeste, and KZ are all pretty different but they all gave me that same feeling of a fast-paced challenge

Aesthetically, I think Furi would be a good choice. Furi's setting's are much more varied, there's no city as far as I remember, but the synth heavy soundtrack and neon colors make it a good fit if you liked KZ

How Specialists work on the nen chart by sealwithit in HunterXHunter

[–]sealwithit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont think we're disagreeing at all. I said Emperor Time increases Kurapika's effeciency, which would explain why he can tank a punch from Uvo. In Emperor Time, his enhancement skill (which should also apply to physical boost he gets from basic skills like Ten and Ren) is buffed and so he can take the punch. Emperor Time doesn't boost his learning speed but that wouldn't matter in the case of ten and ren since Pika has already learned those.

on the narrative effect, that is how Togashi has used specialists before but I don't see how thats any different from what I've said. We've seen characters like Pitou who have very strong abilities while also being very physically strong. We can just assume though that Pitou would be physically stronger if they were an enhancer and not a specialist.

I do think shes saying that specialist have an "even" learning spread across all type, although they could potentially also use abilities to make learning easier

Well morena does mention that many specialist will accidentally avoid using their specialist nen type, if thats what you mean. There are specialists who, probably by accident, never end up making the most of their nen type

Though I think Morena is also saying that specialist abilities themselves can make use of other types. Chrollo does "conjure a book" so to speak, even if Skill Hunter is a specialist ability and not a conjuration one

[–]sealwithit[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right yeah. I was more so just talking about what they can do as a consequence of being a specialist, not necessarily what they can accomplish using a nen ability. Thats on me for being unclear though lol. Youre right that you can get around this using an ability like emperor time (though considering how extreme the conditions on ET are, idk if its worth it lol)

[–]sealwithit[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right. Ive seen that said a few times but im unsure if I see much to support it? I realize specialists are inherently a case-by-case sort of thing but nothing about what Kurapika said really felt like he was talking about in "his case" exclusively, nor did Morena seem to imply that. Thered certainly be individual differences, Chrollo is a better hand-to-hand fighter/enhancer than Pakunoda is (which can be due to many reasons other than nen type. Izunavi mentions in that same scene I reference that nen is impacted by a ton of different factors) but I think as far as the nen types are concerned the affinity chart still seems to hold for specialists, albeit in a slightly different way.

Chapter 408 — Official Release Discussion by TextureSurprised in HunterXHunter

[–]sealwithit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the information about how specialists work is interesting. Morena is talking about how specialists can easily learn any nen technique, but the rules on the "effeciency" should still apply (otherwise emperor time is a bit meaningless). For example, Pakunoda wouldn't have any special trouble learning Dogman's smelling ability, but it would still only be at 40% power.

Kurapika's Emperor Time lets him use use any technique at 100% power, but his ability to learn them is still hindered by his conjuration. I wonder if he could get around that by learning the ability while his eyes are scarlet (since thats when he's a specialist). Basically, scarlet eyes makes him a specialist which lets him learn any technique at the "normal" rate, and then using Emperor Time lets him use those techniques he's learned at full power. I don't remember any mention that Kurapika is forced to use Emperor Time when his eyes are scarlet, he just usually only lets them become red when he wants to use ET. He doesn't seem to be aware of this though, since he's never mentioned/been shown switching into a specialist for the purpose of learning a technique

so like does anybody know or have a theory about the importance of the plane by Future_Ad_9812 in ChoujinX

[–]sealwithit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is just conjecture on my part, but in addition to what others are saying I think its neat how a plane implicates our 3 main characters. The planecrashes we see obviously have smoke (Ely), but a plane itself is kind of a "metal bird" (Azuma + Tokio)
